5.0 out of 5 stars A ground-breaking release featuring 2 incredible songs, October 26, 2004
By
This review is from: Glass Green (Audio CD)
Tim Story is a keyboard artist whose speciality is creating music that captures subtle emotions. His music reminds one of impressionism in visual art because while the music holds many discoveries it also leads one into an inner world of thought and image. It is exceptional listening for quiet, thoughtful times. This cd is a transistional one in that TS was beginning to show a new maturity regarding the direction his later work reflects. There are 2 extremely exceptional pieces on this cd that are as good as anything produced in the new age genre in my opinion. The first, Reading Those Letters is a quiet, tender piece that has a very warm loving quality to it. The title suggests reviewing old letters written by dear acquaintences or family and the music really pulls you into that mood. The RealPlayer sample represents this piece very well. The other masterpiece, and a true masterpiece it is, is The Lure of Silence, which is just as mysterious and deep as the title implies. Unfortunately the RealPlayer sample features a short transistion section between the introduction and the real body of the piece, but it does capture some of the mood of the music. There are levels to this piece - certain patterns of notes - that appear in various places throughout the piece and it is the way that Story works these to create this haunting masterpiece that truly demonstrates his genius. Yes there is art, craft, and sensitivity here, but there is also a musical intuition at work and in the case of this song I feel he has almost touched upon something deeply divine. Many times I have listened to this piece and let it lead me into deep states of silence and thought. I strongly recommend Glass Green if you enjoy something along the lines of impressionistic instrumental music. Also worth getting is The Perfect Flaw, which is possibly his best work and contains numerous gems.

4.0 out of 5 stars A culmination of 5 early works., February 9, 2004
This review is from: Glass Green (Audio CD)
Glass Green is the culmination of Threads, In Another Country, Untitled,Three Feet From The Moon and Wheat and Rust. This CD shows how Story's writing style had matured to the release date of 1987. It should be noted that at this same time, he was nominated for a Grammy for the children's album he did with Rabbit Ears and Glenn Close, The Legend of Sleepy Hollow.

It is rather interesting that there are several motifs from this album that show up later in Lunz and The Perfect Flaw.

I recommend this as good example of where Tim Story came from as well as where he was headed.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Deeply Felt Message Lies Within., September 13, 2008
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Glass Green (Audio CD)
This CD is without a doubt Tim Story's finest work to date, and probably his rarest too, with maybe the exception of "Three Feet From The Moon'.

Are you a sensitive person, or a thinker, or just someone who could lay down all day thinking about cosmic things around your environment, then this is for you. Tim shows his very sentimental side of piano music here, and it really shows on tracks like 'A Fragile Madness' & 'To His Grand Sea'. A deeply felt message is hiding in the subtle tones of this very emotionally driven CD.

But to find this message you have to observe & listen very deeply to his music, almost study it, but when you have done that you will be rewarded with something that you will never forget. The story of your own life.

I'm certain this is Story's best work so far, I can't recommend it enough, I am in awe eatch time I listen to it, and will always be! Buy It!
