I'm not sure why the previous reviewer is so upset over the liner notes - there are virtually none. Just a list of the group members and a quick statement that are playing P. Glass' music because... As for the music - it is very good and other than "Bent" which is a new recording all of the quartets are slightly different than the original recordings. I don't think the original recordings can be topped - esp. "Mishima" but it's nice to hear a fresh sound.

I have been criticizing Philip Glass music a lot recently as being too focused on composing overblown symphony stuff that all sounds the same. But, this recording brings me back to why I am a big fan of Glass, especially the smaller scale ensemble stuff. Philip Glass music seems to always sound best with a small group of players and this is another example. It sounds great and the pure sound of the instrument, the cello, is most captured here. I say NO MORE SYMPHONIES, and MORE MINIMALISM!!!! I had this on loop in my car driving across the country from NYC to Tucson Arizona and it was awesome!!! The "Bent" stuff is great and the new recordings of "Mishima," etc. are BETTER than Kronos Quartet! Move over Kronos Quartet, here comes Brooklyn Rider!!!
