Book Description

4 and upP and up
A trip to the eye doctor can be a life-changing experience for a child with vision problems. In this lively story, the author recounts her own son’s journey from "blurries and squiggles" to a bright new day when "the first thing I saw was the smile on my Mom..." The story is written in simple verse and provides a child-friendly look at eye-exams. It is accompanied with bright, colorful illustrations. The author makes a case for early diagnosis and includes information about eye-care for children, statistics and web-references.

5.0 out of 5 stars A must-read before your child visits the eye doctor!, December 13, 2004
This review is from: Glasses, Glasses, Oh What Do I See? (Hardcover)
This sweet story of a boy who needs glasses is the perfect book to read to a child who will be visiting the optometrist. I read it to my class of first and second graders, and all were enthralled. Those children who had already visited an eye doctor were especially eager to share their personal connections to the story. You don't need to wear glasses, however, to enjoy this heartwarming story of a special relationship between mother and child.

I work in an optometric office, and we purchased two copies for our waiting area. This book gives not only accurate descriptions of vision issues that our young patients may have, but also describes in quite un-scary language, with great illustrations, what a detailed eye exam will involve, including receiving the drops to dilate their eyes. It sends the message that, although the equipment used may be quite intimidating to the young patients, the end result, improved eyesight, is indeed a blessing.

4.0 out of 5 stars A Fun Way to Help Your Child with Glasses, December 20, 2004
This review is from: Glasses, Glasses, Oh What Do I See? (Hardcover)
My nephew has just been through the same experience as the boy in Glasses, Glasses, Oh What Do I see. The humor and open approach to getting help with glasses is right on the money. I'd recommend this for any child and parent (or teacher) that is going through this. And - the pictures are great!
