2.0 out of 5 stars Disappointed with deck
I'd been looking forward to getting this deck. While I've enjoyed reading the card intrepretations, I'm very disappointed with the deck. The cards have a kind of slick/sticky coating that makes them extremely difficult to shuffle. Plus the artwork leaves a lot to be desired.

5.0 out of 5 stars Glastonbury Tarot: Timeless Wisdom from the Isle of Avalon, April 7, 2000
This review is from: The Glastonbury Tarot: Timeless Wisdom from the Isle of Avalon with Cards (Paperback)
This book is a gold mine of practically lost information. It has little known myths and information about the legends of King Arthur's time and has a unique mix of Christian and Pagan archetypes from the period. The artwork on the Tarot cards is a surprising blend of present day and ancient concepts with well known characters as the subject on some of the cards. The artist utilizes a mystical method of painting actual backgrounds from the spiritual sites in Glastonbury and other related places in Europe. There is a special spiritual feel to this set that won't let you down. It is the one Tarot book I have actually read through, not just used for divination! and enjoyed the reading! It also has some unique spreads I have never seen before. If you are interested in the medieval times, this is a wonderful tarot deck to own. Just out of curiosity, I called my local Waldenbook store and not only did they not have it in stock, they could not even order it. Amazon.com is THE place to get it. This is definitely an item worth owning. Ceridwyn Pheryllt seawitch@forcomm.net

5.0 out of 5 stars sumptuous feast, April 12, 2002
This review is from: The Glastonbury Tarot: Timeless Wisdom from the Isle of Avalon with Cards (Paperback)
Lisa's deck succeeded where all others have failed with me. I am able to remember the information about each card (I have a poor memory) because she packs so much symbolism into each image. Not only that but the energy she so obviously poured lovingly into each card shines so brightly as to burn their meaning into my very soul. I love the jewel-like colours, the way she portrays Avalon in both verdant and subtle hues, so adeptly conjuring up the soul-poetry and magic of this landscape and it's many and varied inhabitants. If I diodn't live here I would want to after seeing this fabulous deck which I would recommend to anyone who loves Glastonbury with it's profound mystery and soul-poetry... and to anyone who loves the Tarot. A rare treat.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Beautiful Deck!, December 12, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: The Glastonbury Tarot: Timeless Wisdom from the Isle of Avalon with Cards (Paperback)
When I bought this, there were no pictures on the item description page, so I was not sure what I would get. The topic alone was reason enough to add this to my collection. When I received this, I loved it immediately. The colors are vibrant, but the images are very soft. There are also lots of stories that give real background into reading with these cards. I would not buy this deck and book alone for your first set, but it is not too difficult for a second deck at all.

5.0 out of 5 stars I really love this tarot deck, February 6, 2006
This review is from: The Glastonbury Tarot: Timeless Wisdom from the Isle of Avalon with Cards (Paperback)
After going through many decks, this is the taort deck that I currently use the most. First of all, the imagery is beautiful. Some people said they do not like the artwork, but I personally love it. Beautiful bold colours, images that leave a strong visual impression and that are full of vitality. I love the "true to life" male and female characters in the cards. Each human being image in the cards is the portrait of a real life person living in Glastonbury at the time. That brings me to the second point: these cards capture the energy and feel of Glastonbury just beautifully. And since Glastonbury is one of my favorite places on Earth, it would difficult for me not to like these cards. On the negative side: yes the quality could be a little better. They are poorly laminated and they do not shuffle that well. In fact the laminate in mine is now quite worn. These cards would benefit from being re-issued using better manufacturing.

The booklet that goes with the cards is great: I never get tired of reading the meanings of the various cards as written by Lisa T. Dolma. She has her on angle on the tarot and one that I really enjoy. Lots of wisdom here: a very old Soul looking out on the world. I find most of these tarot booklets boring ( they mostly all rehash the same old stuff), but Lisa's booklet is excellent and deep and very spiritual.

I highly recommend this deck: just be careful not to shuffle it too hard, as it is a little fragile. But if you can handle that, you will most certainly enjoy these cards.

3.0 out of 5 stars Excellent starter Tarot, November 21, 2009
This review is from: The Glastonbury Tarot: Timeless Wisdom from the Isle of Avalon with Cards (Paperback)
The look of The Glastonbury Tarot is reminiscent of the Cicero's Golden Dawn Deck (not Robert Wang's GD Deck). Like the Cicero's deck, The Glastonbury's color scheme is extremely vivid; unfortunately, The Glastonbury is without the Tatvic significance of the Cicero's GD Deck, which is a shame, because the color scheme of the Cicero's deck is considered by many Hermetic Qabalists to be one of the most accurate color schemes in a Tarot deck now on the market. Unfortunately, Tabitha Cicero's art leaves most people high and dry, which is why the deck has never been a particularly successful one. It has also been in competition with Robert Wang's Golden Dawn Tarot (Wang is the author of the very essential book, The Qabalistic Tarot), in which four Tarot decks are thoroughly explained simultaneously).

ANYway, back to The Glastonbury Tarot. Vivid colors, interesting but simplistic, which can be extremely helpful in developing an understanding of the essential meanings of the cards. The deck is blessedly free of the myriad of visual symbols typical in many decks whose artists seem to think the more symbology is thrown into a picture, the better. So a large part of what makes this deck so useful is that each card clearly represents its meaning without "clutter." For newer readers, it is a great choice.

4.0 out of 5 stars Glastonbury magic, August 10, 2002

This review is from: The Glastonbury Tarot: Timeless Wisdom from the Isle of Avalon with Cards (Paperback)
This is the best deck I have used so far. Even if the pictures aren't as beautiful as many other decks, they are brightly colored. The feel and accuracy of the deck makes up for any lack of ability on the artist's part.

The interpretations for the cards are easy to understand and apply to everyday life, they do not fall into the trap of oversimplification or cryptic meanings. I also found the histories of the people portrayed as a good way to ease into the legends surrounding the area.

I would recommend this deck to anyone.

2.0 out of 5 stars A bit of a disappointment, December 27, 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: The Glastonbury Tarot: Timeless Wisdom from the Isle of Avalon with Cards (Paperback)
I love the works of Caitlin and John Matthews, so I jumped at this deck, purchasing it sight unseen. Opening the box was a terrible disappointment. As it turns out, their only contribution was to write the forword of the book. The artwork is colorful in the Matthews tradition, but simple and vague. Even the quality of the card stock was less than what I expected. If I had seen the deck open in a store, I probably would have saved my money for something else.
