A bargain and still relevant almost 20 years later, December 27, 2008
This review is from: Glaucoma Surgical Techniques (Ophthalmology Monographs, 4) (Paperback)
Not a lot has changed in glaucoma surgery. So, despite the age of this book, it is still useful. The techniques described for trabeculectomy and placement of plate based shunts are about the same now as they were.
The book speaks about laser procedures such as ALT and laser iridiotomy/iridoplasty and goniophotocoagulation. Laser cyclodestruction is just briefly covered and the diode laser is not covered. SLT is not mentioned either (obviously, it wasnt invented yet).
Also, older techniques such as creation of a cyclodyalisis are not covered nor is repair of one. New techniques such as the gold solex shunt, trabectome, and viscocanalostomy are obviously not covered. Also not covered are congenital glaucoma, which should have been included.
So, there is a fair amount both old and new not covered in this book. But for the most commonly performed procedures (trabs and shunts as well as laser procedures) the book is more than adequate and very good.
