Great, quick read and fun to boot.

The only reason I forced myself to finish reading this book is because I spent my hard-earned money on it.

I got a little bored with the story towards the end because it really needed to be over.

This book was soo good I really really enjoyed it. The setting was a nice town that I would like to visit if it were real. The heroine was very likable. Most of the characters were likable and all were believable. I liked the budding romance here too. This was a very satisfying read. Yummy yummy recipes had me running out for donuts lol. I would recommend this for anyone looking to start a new series as this is the first book in the series.

If you're in the mood for a light read, with mystery starting in the first paragraph, combined with humor and romance, GLAZED MURDER fits the bill. Suzanne Hart goes to work one morning and as she's opening her donut shop, someone dumps a dead body from their moving car. As she sees the disguised villian, he also sees her. Now it's a race to find out who the killer is before he decides she's a loose end which needs to be tied. The cast of characters include a helpful ex-cop, an overprotective mother, a best friend, an ex-husband who won't go away, and a possible new love interest. It's not heavy reading, but it's worth the time.

Glazed Murder by Jessica Beck is the first in the Donut Shop Mystery series. Yes, just about every food establishment has a mystery series around it. I'm not sure what the appeal is, but I do like donuts.
This series follows the owner of Donut Hearts, Suzanne Hart. Suzanne bought the shop on a whim after her messy divorce from Max, an aspiring actor who is trying to win her back. Now she wakes up every morning around 1 a.m. to go to her shop and make donuts.
One early morning, she opens the shop, looks outside and sees a body being thrown from a vehicle. Turns out one of her regular customers was murdered and for some reason, the body was dumped on her doorstep. Unfortunately, Suzanne is now in danger because she is a witness to part of the crime. In an effort to protect herself and her shop, she sets out to investigate who might be involved. Along the way she meets Jake, a state police investigator, who offers her a romantic diversion.
Though this follows the standard cozy mystery formula, I really enjoyed the story and characters. however, everything wraps up very quickly at the end, and I would have liked to have more clues along the way. If you enjoy light mysteries and romance, this is a fun one to try!

Overall, it wasn't a bad mystery. It will hold you attention and keep you guessing til the end.

Suzanne Heart owns a doughnut shop. Alls she wants to do is to make doughnuts for the small town she lives it and live a regular life. Well, one morning, that all changed. It seems that someone dumped a body on her doorstep (literally) and Suzanne finds herself drawn in the mystery. She feels that she has to solve the murder because the person that was killed was a friend of her and since the body was dumped on the doorstep, she feel's it's her job to solve it. A state trooper, Jake Bishop, is also on the case. Jake and Suzanne at times, team up to solve the case. The problem is that the killer is keeping close tabs on Suzanne and tries to warn her off. Suzanne doesn't listen and very soon, the killer has their eyes on Suzanne.

This book has some interesting cast of characters that we meet along the way. Beck has a pretty solid writing style that will keep the reader engaged. Not to many plot twists, maybe just one, even that one isn't really a plot twist, but this will hold the readers attention. Beck also has the ability to set a "hometown and small town" feeling in the settings of the story.

Glazed Murder also has some recipes that look really good!

Overall, it's a pretty good start to a promising series. I look forward to the next one.

Author Jessica Beck's new "A Donut Shop Mystery" series introduces Suzanne Hart, owner of Donut Hearts Coffee Shop, her mother, town gossip Gabby, ex-husband Max, along with several other characters who work and play in the small town of April Springs, North Carolina. The book was mostly slow paced and easy to follow. It was hard to believe that the police chief and state police inspector would stand idle while Suzanne indiscreetly conducts her investigation. The action picked up noticeably in the last chapter which shows promise for future books in this "recipe" enriched mystery.

This was a great book. A couple of editing mistakes, but the overall story was fun and energetic. This book got me from page one. I love Diane Mott Davidson's Goldie books and this series seems to be very close in style. Keep on writing Jessica!

OK, I'm still in the early part of the book, but right away there are SO many similar things to the Goldy Schultz books .... she's a divorcee trying to support herself by cooking ... she involves herself in murders and mysteries .... there are recipes given throughout the book .... pretty much a rip off of the whole Goldy series. I have a lot more reading to do before I finish the book, but if she ends up dating or marrying a cop (just like Goldy) that'll be the finishing copy cat touch. So far I don't like the character too much, she's mean to her mom and her reasons for getting involved in trying to solve the murder is pretty lame. Not impressed so far. If I hadn't of already read all the Goldy books, I probably would be enjoying it more.

UPDATE: The premise still continued, she did indeed end up dating a cop. And has a young co-worker who is college student (yes, like the Goldy Schultz books). However, by the end of the book I ended up liking it enough to give the second book in the series a chance. Glad I did, as it was even better. The main character mellowed out some and am enjoying the relationship with frinds and family and boyfriend. Now I've read all 5 of the books in the series and am eagerly awaiting number 6.
