Product Description

Champagne, Brandy, Wine... each has its own glass. Yet whisky, the worlds most complex spirit, can be found served in anything from hi-ball tumblers to Paris goblets. It's a bit like pouring your vintage champagne into a pint tumbler or your XO brandy into a shot glass! Raymond Davidson decided it was about time someone designed a proper whisky glass...a single definitive glass that the whiskey world could call its own. Following in the tradition of Scottish innovation, the Glencairn Glass has arrived. It's roots lie in the traditional nosing and tasting glasses used by master blenders and connoisseurs around the world.

Combining the knowledge and expertise of some of the whisky world's leading innovators, the unique and stylish shape has been crafted with eminent care to enhance the enjoyment of single malts and aged blends. The tapering mouth allows an ease of drinking not associated with traditional nosing glasses, while capturing that all-important bouquet. The wide bowl allows for the fullest appreciation of the whiskey's color and the solid base is designed to be easy on the hand.

Today the Glencairn Glass can be found at every distillery in Scotland, Ireland, Wales as well as most in the USA. It has won accolades from around the world including the Queens Award, the highest award for business in the UK. It may have taken a few hundred years to arrive, but whisky now has a glass of it's own... FINALLY!

1-3/4" diameter x 4-1/2" H with a 6 ounce capacity

I don’t know what to rate them, I loved them. I bought 4 on October 19th 2013. They fit so nicely in the hand and I find the bottom perfectly weighted. These glasses do enhance the enjoyment of scotch for me, concentrating the aromas while allowing for spill free swirling.

In December 2013, the bottom of one just fell off while casually holding it.
I lost my scotch on the floor.
I am not hard on my possessions and am very mindful when it comes to delicate items such as this. Well, I thought it a fluke and would not have taken off a single star based on a one off experience.

On January 22nd 2014, three months after purchasing, the same thing happened. The bottom just dropped off while holding it. I posted a picture of the 2nd glass. After drinking from them I rinse and wash them immediately by hand and put them upside down to drain and dry. I do not own a dishwasher. Maybe it was a bad batch or maybe I banged them at some point. Twice just seems more than coincidental.

My wife got me a pair of these for Valentine's Day. I am very happy with the glasses and the added aroma-effect when enjoying some bourbon. Sometimes I like ice - I was curious if an ice-ball, like the Tovolo Sphere or The Original Whiskey Ball (both 2.5" diameter), would fit. The Glencairn's opening is 1.75"; additionally, the glass is 4.5" tall, 2-5/8" wide at the widest point, and the base is also 1.75". I added a few pics to show "The Glencairn Glass" etching, height, and the opening. Hope this helps.

As Ralfy would say, Hello all you malt mates. This glass is perfect for that good single malt scotch. It allows the aromas to go straight to your nose when nosing. And after letting the whisky settle for a few moments lets you taste the wonderful flavors of your favorite whisky. I would recommend this glass for anyone serious about good scotch.

I suspect this is not authentic Glencairn crystal as it was not boxed as seen on the official Glencairn website. Doesn't have any marks like I've seen on other Glencairn products. Buyer beware.

Update: I went out to an authorized Glencairn retailer to compare. The ones that I bought here are NOT crystal, they are glass. Make certain that you verify that they're crystal when you receive them. Authentic Glencairn have their mark on the bottom and ring like any other crystal glassware.

Prior to getting these glasses, I used rocks glasses almost exclusively. I enjoy my whisky neat, or at most a splash of water to allow the whisky to open up prior to sipping. I noticed an immediate difference with the first dram I poured. The individual notes came alive in my nose, allowing me to get more out of the whisky. If you like to mix your whisky or enjoy it on the rocks, this is not the glass for you. The design lends to exploring the intristic qualities of the whisky, and forces you to sip slowly. Sláinte!

My original Glencairn glass was purchased from a speciality liquor store. It was delicate, made of thin crystal with an etched marking on the bottom.

When I ordered these replacements I was surprised by the price, but I chalked it up to brick-and-mortar mark-up. However, the quality of these glasses are subpar and they are not the genuine article.

While I have no doubt they'll do the trick, they are not as advertised. Will be returning!

These glasses are 7 oz and are designed for a 2oz drink. They are perfect for rolling the whiskey around, to coat the sides and release the aromas. I was impressed with how much the shape of the glass's added to my enjoyment of the whiskey. Put your nose in this glass and the aromas are incredibly intense, making it easier to pick out specific notes. These glasses are well worth the small cost.

These are great glasses for tasting whisky. I've been a wine aficionado for a long time and appreciate how the right glass improves the tasting experience. These do the same for whisky, and at a reasonable price.

Why are these better? When tasting, you need both taste and olfaction. Try it sometime: pinch your nose and taste something; it will be off and weak tasting. However, with whisky, there is the risk of getting too much alcohol on the nose, overpowering the whisky taste itself. For me, these glasses strike the right balance. To test them, I did a side-by-side blind taste test of two bourbons (Evan Williams 2002 and 2003 single barrel vintages). I could easily pick out the two years (of which 2002 was substantially better). I use these for bourbons as well as scotch and rye.

How do they compare to other options? I find whisky with them to be more enjoyable than with straight sided glasses such as the Riedel glasses (Riedel H2O Double-Old Fashioned Whiskey Glass, Set of 2). I have not tried long-stem nosing glasses (e.g., Schott Zwiesel Tritan Crystal Glass Stemware Nosing/Whiskey Glass, 7.4-Ounce, Set of 6) because they look fragile, but seem like another great option. Compared to the Riedel single malt glasses (Riedel Vinum Single Malt Whiskey Glasses, Set of 2), I think these are just as enjoyable and much less expensive.

Are they overrated? Probably.
