Editorial Reviews

From School Library Journal

Kindergarten-Grade 2-- Glenda Feathers, the heroic chicken of The Robbery at the Diamond Dog Diner (Clarion, 1986) , returns for another adventure caused by her trusting yet feckless ways. Here, she decides that her future is with Miss Marvel's Witch Agency. Miss Marvel isn't so sure when she discovers that Glenda has no skills. She's even more dubious when Glenda's training period reveals that her enthusiasm outstrips her expertise: she keeps mixing up her spells. Nevertheless, Miss Marvel decides to let Glenda answer phones while she's out, whereupon Glenda promptly signs up two new customers who need someone to unlock some doors--to the local bank. Glenda comes through with inspired ineptitude as, in her efforts to help the would-be robbers, she captures them instead. The book continues in the spirit of its predecessor, and the result is minor farce played out by a series of anthropomorphic characters illustrated in a loosely surrealistic style, featuring crowded frames, unusual perspectives, and distorted lines and shapes, all packed together in a joyful jumble in shades of purple, blue, yellow, and pink. Derivative of the previous book, but still broadly entertaining. --Christine Behrmann, New York Pub. Lib.
