My father, Joe Gershenson, was music director at Univeral Pictures and reproduced the Glenn Miller sound with the great musicians of the day with his protege, Hank Mancini by his side. Miller's widow was against this project as she didn't believe anyone could reproduce the Glenn Miller sound. She was thrilled when she heard what my dad could do and gave her blessings.
Both my father and Mancini received Academy Award nominations for this music. I sat in on the recording sessions - great memories!

This an excellent soundtract recording. Unfortunately it is not by Glenn Miller. I have Cd's of Glenn Millers but they all sound flat. This recording is alive and vibrant. To bad that it is out of print. J Frich

I'm suprised no one has said anything about this cd.
I think this is Henry Mancini conducting Glen Miller's orch, but I can't be sure. That said, this is the best Glen Miller I've ever heard. There is a really kick to the music here.

The CD was in great shape and the price was much less than I thought I would have to pay. It arrived timely during the holidays.

I have some old Glen Miller records and it is amazing how accurately this CD matches the style of those records. They did a great job with this and it is a joy to listen to.

This is by far the most accurate representation of what Glenn Miller would have sounded like had higher-quality stereo recording equipment been widely available back in the days of his original 78 rpm record releases. The technology WAS available [35mm multitrack optical sound recording film] but only in routine use by two major movie studios- MGM and Fox. A pity. Also, Engineer William Garity invented Fantasound, a multichannel recording/playback system for Walt Disney Studios, for the movie Fantasia. Too bad HIS system was not used in recording all the big band originals. One can only imagine.

Anyways, listen to this CD on a surround sound system, for a different kind of nostalgia. There are many other Glenn Miller knockoff recordings, but almost none of them really are faithful to the original arrangements and playing style, which makes this particular STEREO CD all the more precious for us traditionalists. Glenn Miller's last arranger [one Henry Mancini] and 7 of his lead players are responsible for the authentic Glenn Miller sound of this CD. But a warning- listening to this CD will make the harsh flat sound of Glenn Miller's original 78 rpm recordings seem less enjoyable by comparison.
