I have to admit, that Glico sometimes have made some exceptional snacks with their Pocky range, such as their Pocky Strawberry, which is a blast. With this milk chocolate version, I was not so impressed.

The idea is the same: pretzel stick dipped in chocolate. It is not as sweet as some, so those who do not like sugar-induced psychosis will appreciate these...

4.0 out of 5 stars A mild cookie type snack, December 17, 2004
This review is from: Glico - Chocolate Pocky 2.82 Oz. (Misc.)
Pocky is one of those snack foods that make you think you are not really eating anything bad because it is light and crunchy, and you could eat a box of them and feel as though you have eaten nothing. The center is a very mild flavored cracker or cookie that has a mild taste similar to an animal cracker. The cracker is coated at one end with a mild milk chocolate. The end result is a pleasant, mildly sweet taste.

I enjoy Pocky, but they can be a bit of a mess in the hands of a child. My children have eaten them in the back seat of our car and if a Pocky should break the slender stick easily falls into the seat; the soft chocolate will soon color your car seat, and more if the temperature in the car should melt the chocolate. Also, sometimes Pocky will crumble and the crumbs are as bad as crackers.

Chocolate Pocky remains a favorite with our family, though we have tried the strawberry and occasionally buy it for a change. I recommend this treat for people who prefer a subtle cookie flavor and a light snack.

5.0 out of 5 stars Tasty "popping-crispy" Japanese treats that you've seen in mangas--but beware mail order in summer, July 5, 2010

Pocky is just plain fun to eat. I discovered these snacks at an anime convention (though I'd heard about them before and had seen manga characters eating them). They are very, very slim sticks of biscuity stuff (the flavor to me is a cross between waffle cones and pretzels) that have a charming tiny popping crispness. The chocolate flavor, a nice non-bitter, non-dark, generically pleasing choco-taste, seems to be the most popular (given how fast they sell out at cons), but I prefer the flavor of the strawberry which is like strawberry ice cream. Very nice.

This is by no means a health food (it's in the same category as a cookie, it's got fat and sugar and non-healthful ingredients). But hey, it's junk food. We all know it's supposed to be OCCASIONAL and not habitual in the diet. Unless you're really prone to binge-eating or can't stop yourself a whole one of these smaller boxes is not a huge calorie splurge if you stick to a reasonable number. 10 of the chocolate pocky sticks will set you back 125 calories with 5 grams of fat, 3 of them saturated. I wouldn't recommend just scarfing down multiple boxes. In fact, just nibble these slowly and have fun with the cool texture effect.

If you love the flavor of coconut-chocolate together (like Almond Joy) try the coconut chocolate ones. They're really so good, oh man. Hubby says the taste reminds him of the Girl Scout 'caramel delights" cookies which are, in turn, similar to the old Yes Yes cookies (from the seventies or so).

Anyway, if you have read manga or seen anime with young folks eating those stick-looking treats, or seen footage of cute Japanese girls nibbling at skinny little stick treats, this is what they were eating. :) Fun treats.

However, with this crazy hot summer, I'd recommend you look for a local retailer or wait until fall's cooler weather. You might get a sticky, clumped mess of Pocky sticks in this deep summer weather. (Look for local stores that specialize in Japanese anime or manga and they'll likely carry Japanese snacks like these. In South Florida, Tate's Comics has them in a variety of flavors..and FRESH and NOT MELTED).

Also, if you want to risk summer shipping, the shipping here for ONE pack is crazy. Do a search for Amazon-prime Pocky or Pocky with Free Shipping (such as by ToysDiva).

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Candy!, December 31, 2004

Pocky is one of the best candies food that I have eaten. The biscuit is nearly flavourless next to the mild chocolate cover! Pocky is incredibly addictive and you won't be ashamed of getting hooked!

5.0 out of 5 stars Unbeatable., August 7, 2004
This review is from: Glico - Chocolate Pocky 2.82 Oz. (Misc.)
I would probably classify this as a candy as opposed to a snack item, since you'd have to eat a few boxes to begin sating your hunger. But saying that it is candy implies that it is drenched in "high fructose corn syrup" or other hallmarks of candy ingredient. But the taste really comes through while not making you feel slightly nauseous if you do happen to down several boxes.

Let me say also that it tastes somewhat like smores sans the marshmallow. Then why not just make smores instead of buying the chocolate pocky? Smores are standardly made with graham crackers and hershey bars. Not bad...but not overwhelming either. I suggest you try the chocolate pocky dipped in marshmallow cream and compare. Do so carefully as their hollow centers make them quite easily breakable. I should also point out that the chocolate version is far superior to strawberry. Far superior.

4.0 out of 5 stars A wonderful treat!, October 13, 2007
This review is from: Glico - Chocolate Pocky 2.82 Oz. (Misc.)
To be honest, I was a little skeptical about these things at first. But I had heard good things about them, so I decided to try. Am I glad I did! They are quite tasty, and the chocolate isn't intolerably sweet like you find on a lot of candies. This is great for people like me, who love chocolate but can't stand all that sugar. The biggest flaw I can think of is that they disappeared quite fast; I just couldn't get enough.

The product, itself, arrived quite promptly. And, as my store just doesn't carry this stuff, I'll definitely be ordering from these people again.

Overall, the taste is ok, but I found myself rather quickly bored with them. Other varieties of Pocky were much more interesting. Having said that, they make a great reading snack, as they do not leave your fingers covered in garbage, and your pages stay clean.

Not a bad snack, but other flavours are more interesting.

I love pocky! I finally tried it after loads of people had told me how good it was. They were absolutely right, too. It is really, really yummy. The little pocky sticks are thin, crispy, and the chocolate is smooth and delicious. They are very tasty, and a great snack at any time of the day(hehe!). I agree with someone else who said they would live off of pocky if they could. Who wouldn't? The stuff is delicious!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Snack, January 4, 2005
This review is from: Glico - Chocolate Pocky 2.82 Oz. (Misc.)
Chocolate Pocky is very good. It tastees somewhat like a French snack food that I've had. Pocky has a biscuit-like stick covered in chocolate. I could eat these all day. They seem to disappear very quickly... but that's because they're so good. They do come in other flavours, like strawberry and bananna, but I don't know if Amazon carries the other flavours.
