Highly Recommended by International Sugar Glider Association,
By Erebor Telperion (Laurence Harbor, New Jersey USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Sugar Gliders (Barron's Complete Pet Owner's Manuals) (Paperback)
This is simply the best book on sugar gliders currently available. As president of the ISGA, Inc., I always recommend it to all people who contact us for guidance on caring for their pets. It has excellent information on the animal's physical characteristics and natural origins, as well as clear and helpful information on the domesticated pet. There are other books on the market that were written before all the facts were in on sugar gliders, so I would recommend anyone to make this book their primary resource.
***edited in 2007*** -- In seven years, we've come a long way in sugar glider nutrition. There are enough good foods on the market now that no one should be feeding their gliders cat food. This book still has a lot to offer, but I suggest checking internet websites to get the latest information on feeding.

Considering the addition of Sugar Gliders to you family? If so, please read this book. It will help you decide if you are ready, and have what it takes, to commit to becoming a loving Glider owner. Already have Gliders? Still, read this book. It provides pertinent information to create, and maintain, both an interesting and nutritional life for your pet(s).

This was the book I bought when I was considering getting sugar gliders. I read it from cover to cover and now that I've had sugar gliders for nearly two years I know that this book helped me learn everything I needed to know to have happy, healthy sugar gliders. I would recommend this book to everyone who is even thinking about getting gliders.

This review is from: Sugar Gliders (Barron's Complete Pet Owner's Manuals) (Paperback)
This book is great! It is the most easy to understand and most helpful sugar glider book I have ever read. This book tells you everything you need to know including diet, sleeping, breeding, and raising an abandoned baby. It tells you how to pick a good sugar glider and the signs to know if it is a sick or injured glider! Ihave never read a book that summed everything up as much as this did. It is great!

Good book for people who want a glider,

This review is from: Sugar Gliders (Barron's Complete Pet Owner's Manuals) (Paperback)
I am a sugar glider owner, and I would recommend this book to anyone who is interested in sugar gliders. It includes dietary information, care information, and even instructions for building a cage! The only problem I saw was that a picture caption mentioned letting gliders have a sock to sleep in, and that's a no-no, according to the breeders I talked to. Otherwise, this information is right on the money!

Outdated, But An OK Place to Start,
By
This review is from: Sugar Gliders (Barron's Complete Pet Owner's Manuals) (Paperback)
There is some information in this book that is outdated, particularly the part dealing with Sugar Glider nutrition. We know a lot more about the nutritional needs of Sugar Gliders than we did when this book was published in 1997. For example, MacPherson suggests it is fine to feed cat food to Sugar Gliders. That idea has been debunked for some time.
It's an OK book to start with if you know absolutely nothing about Sugar Gliders. And it's only good because no new books with updated Sugar Glider information have been published recently. There is, however, a ton of solid, up-to-date information about Sugar Gliders available on the internet.

This review is from: Sugar Gliders (Barron's Complete Pet Owner's Manuals) (Paperback)
My daughter wanted these incredibly cute little marsupials. I told her she could have some if she read the book and agreed to treat them as stated by the book. She decided she didn't want them, after all, and I was left breating a sigh of relief that I wouldn't end up with time intensive pets abandoned by her. The books is very explicit and well written. Thank YOU! |
