The Glif+ comes with 3 pieces: the Glif, the Serif, and the Ligature. The Glif is an iPhone 4/4S accessory with two primary functions: mounting your iPhone onto a tripod and propping up your iPhone at various angles. It has a 1/4"-20 thread that fits any standard tripod or camera mount. The Glif is designed to work with a "naked" (caseless) iPhone and is compatible with both the iPhone 4 and 4S. The Serif is designed to keep your iPhone incredibly secure on the tripod. While the Glif is great for normal use, the Serif will keep your phone safe in more extreme situations. And, when you are not using the Serif, it fits snuggly inside the Glif, making it very compact. Additionally, the Glif+ comes with the Ligature, a simple keyring loop that attaches to the tripod thread on the Glif. Imagine, these little bits of rubberized resin going for this much money.

Guess what? It's worth it.

The iPhone has a decent camera, one that produces much better stills and video than the camera specs would indicate. With the plethora of additional camera apps available I found the need to mount the iPhone using a tripod mount.

I investigated several tripod mounting options for the iPhone 4 and chose this one. My iPhone goes around unashamedly naked. Yes, unprotected and exposed to the world or at least as exposed as it can get in an inner pocket of my Scott eVest.

That is important in this case as the Glif mount only works on a bare iPhone.

The Glif itself is a decent tripod mount. It supports your camera, but just barely. (No pun intended.) It doesn't take much movement for the camera to slip out of the mount. But if you're only going to use it on a tripod in the "normal" position and protected from movement it'll be ok. Probably.

The Glif Plus comes with the Serif, an additional arm that clamps over the Glif and to the side of the phone. This creates a much more secure mount. So secure that I have the Glyph and Serif hanging upside down from a Panavise windshield mount in my car, mounted just below the rearview mirror. This is now my iPhone car mount. I can use for TomTom satnav (my normal use), use the main camera for video as I drive (I have a time lapse video camera app that's very cool) or the front facing camera for video blogging. It is secure enough that I'm willing to use it on a camera mount on the handlebar of my Goldwing motorcycle though I'll probably tether it using a dead charging cable just for safety....

The Serif also slides into the Glif securely for storage and there's a little screw with keychain ring (I don't remember the name they call it) that screws into the mount hole of the Glif so you can hang the whole thing on your keychain and have it with you. I not only don't use that little metal screw but honestly don't know for sure where it is.

Oh yes, the "Stand" but seems to be the cardboard carton that the Glif Plus arrives in. If you open and fold it the right way, it sort of creates a bipod if you use it between the Glif and the little screw. Don't bother. You're not going to carry the little box around anyway. You could do a better job with a styrofoam or plastic cup if you need a quickie mount. Punch a hole in the bottom using a pencil or pen, screw the little screw through the bottom of the cup into the Glif and turn the cup over. Instant camera mount.

All in all, the Glif plus is a very cool mount for an iPhone in the following conditions:
1. You need a camera mount
2. Your iPhone isn't in a case or you are willing to remove the case/bumper each time you wish to mount it.
3. You have a mounting device like a tripod that offers a normal camera thread (1/4") screw

As I started relying on my iPhone 4S as my primary camera, I became interested in what other kind of things I could do with it, like stop-motion, time-lapse, etc. I came across the Glif+ and thought I'd give it a chance. I haven't been disappointed. It's so easy to have to hand (I keep mind on my key-ring with the Ligature), and the box acts as a tripod so you can get started the minute it arrives in the post.

The ease of use of the actual Glif (and StudioNeat also have a good stop-motion app called Frameographer on the App Store) is encouraging to those who may not have thought they could do more than take standard photographs with their iPhone 4/S.

I've used this Glif+ tripod mount to mount my iPhone to an Photive Axis-G action sports camera handle to skateboard and film without shaky movements and it works great. In most cases you should go for the "+" package, unless your gonna use your iPhone on a small desk tripod, then the extra locking clip the Glif+ has is a necessity. I can go skateboarding down the street with my iPhone completely caseless in the mount and have complete trust that my phone won't fall out and smash on the ground or it go flying out into traffic or anything. You can test your confidence in the Glif+ by holding your iPhone upside on the mount, with the normal Glif it wont fall out...but give it a few good shakes and it will sometimes fall. With the + it really won't even budge, I love it. The only bad side is that when Apple releases their next iPhone it will most certainly be a redesigned phone that won't fit this product anymore, so keep that in mind if you plan on getting the "iPhone 5" or 2012 iPhone whatever they call it. But hell, with this and the Olloclip I'll still be keeping my iPhone 4 around alot longer than I thought. Thanks Studio Neat! BTW, watch their description video for the Glif its really interesting, I watched it about a dozen times.
