5.0 out of 5 stars Another Great Read, July 7, 2010

A Glimpse of Evil did not disappoint. The story moved along nicely and all of our favorite characters make an appearance. Too often series start to recycle plots and become less interesting. Not the case in Laurie's latest installment. Another excellent read in the series. I can't wait to read the next one.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Fast Page Turner, September 8, 2010

I have been a fan of both of Laurie's series from the beginning and gobbled this one up as soon as it came from
Amazon. I was a little leery of Glimpse of Evil because the last Ghost Buster book had disappointed me with the absence of Stephen the series hero and a cliff hanger ending romantically that as a long time romance fan disappointed me.

But, Glimpse of Evil did not disappoint in any way. I love Abby, Dutch and their friends and what made this enormous fun for me was the romantic elements got full coverage in this book and weren't just there as filler. But, the mysteries did not get short shrift either, I was totally engrossed from page one and I only realized who the villain was right before Abby did--which since I have read mysteries for 50 years, is pretty unusual I nearly always know who done it.

As another reviewer mentioned, I would start with book one and just read the entire series back-to-back, that's what I did when I discovered Ms. Laurie last year and then I devoured all of the Ghost Buster books and only the last one in that series disappointed, from a romance viewpoint and I am still hoping Stephen will reappear in the next book; but, whether he does or not I will be reading to see what Ms. Laurie comes up with next. She is an excellent storyteller with an eye to detail and creates characters who are both likable and people you want to cheer on.

3.0 out of 5 stars Eh...kind of disappointed, September 2, 2010
This review is from: A Glimpse of Evil (Psychic Eye Mysteries, No. 8) (Mass Market Paperback)
I'm not thrilled with where Laurie has taken this series. I really enjoyed Abby when she was doing readings out of her own office and getting into trouble on her own...not working with the FBI. The move to TX seemed contrived (really, everyone she cares about is going with her?!) and the end of this one was just disappointing. I've been following the Abby Cooper series since book 1, but I'm not sure I'm going to spend another $8 on the next one. I DO really enjoy Laurie's other series about M.J. Holliday, and definitely plan to pick up the next book in that series.

As usual Victoria Laurie comes through again and delivers an intriging book with great interplay between Abby Cooper and her SO Dutch. Also enjoyed Abby's BFF Candice and her on, off boyfriend Brice. As usaual the girls both get into dangerous situations. The end was for the most a surprise. Definitely a good read.

5.0 out of 5 stars fun paranormal urban whodunit, July 10, 2010
This review is from: A Glimpse of Evil (Psychic Eye Mysteries, No. 8) (Mass Market Paperback)
With the downturn in the economy, psychic Abby Cooper is losing much of her client base to the point where she cannot earn a decent living. Her live-in lover is offered a job as Assistant Agent in Charge in Austin in a separate building with agents working cold cases. Dutch's boss Brice Harrison is impressed with Abby's precognitive skills, he offers her work as a "civilian intuitive profiler"; the Feds do not employ psychics.

They accept the positions and head to Austin where on her first day Abby applies her psychic talent, which enables the unit to solve a few cold cases in under a week. She accompanies Agent Rodriguez on a field inquiry into a car used to transport kidnapped children. They locate the vehicle and talk with the tow truck operator, but instead meet his son; he shoots Rodriguez forcing Abby to shoot him before he kills them. Internal Affairs investigates the shootings with Rodriguez and Cooper on suspension with pay. Abby continues to look at the missing children's case that she ties to the deaths of three seemingly unrelated men who are dead, but though she tries she is unable to connect the dots that would complete the puzzle.

The "Psychic Eye Mysteries" are always a treat for paranormal urban whodunit fans. The key to this terrific series is that Victoria Laurie does not try to sell to her fans her star's skills, but instead deftly interweaves them into the story line as a powerful device that supports a much more rounded individual and plot; thus they could exist as they seem "normal" in this person and setting. Obviously Dutch and Abby are in love, but their romantic subplot provides relief, often amusing, from the seriousness of the investigations. With a strong cleverly constructed mystery, readers watch a somewhat frustrated Abby work on her own time because someone else is about to be killed.

This review is from: A Glimpse of Evil (Psychic Eye Mysteries, No. 8) (Mass Market Paperback)
I have been a fan of Victoria Laurie since her first book. (Abby Cooper, Psychic Eye (Psychic Eye Mysteries, Book 1)Her newest book, "A Glimpse of Evil", is a great addition to this series about psychic Abby Cooper. Abby is now working for the FBI with boyfriend Dutch for a new cold case office in Austin, Texas. Abby has to adjust to a new city and a new job, which is made a little easier since her best friend Candice has also relocated to Austin.

My favorite parts of the earlier books in this series were the descriptions of the readings that Abby did for her clients. While this book doesn't include readings for "paying clients", Abby does do a reading of a new co-worker and takes a look at her own future. I really enjoyed reading how Abby used her intuitive talents to review old cold case files. A really fun part was the class that Abby gives to her fellow FBI agents on using their own intuition to help solve crimes.

The cases themselves were also interesting and the book is a quick read with a satisfying ending for the cases and for Abby's personal life. While this book is intended for adults, I think older teens would also enjoy it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Another Winner by Victoria Laurie, August 13, 2010

This review is from: A Glimpse of Evil (Psychic Eye Mysteries, No. 8) (Mass Market Paperback)
Abby Cooper and her boyfriend Dutch Rivers have both taken jobs with the FBI and moved to Austin, Texas. As a psychic Abby's new job involves her looking at cold cases and using her powers of intuition to try and solve them - something that doesn't thrill the other FBI investigators. Abby's not one to back away from a challenge and soon solves several cold cases. But trouble seems to follow Abby around, and soon she's in trouble with the FBI. Not only that, but she's convinced several cold cases are linked to each other and begins to investigate these cases with the help of her friend Candice. Little do they realize a killer is closer to them than they know.

"A Glimpse of Evil" is another nice entry in Victoria Laurie's Psychic Eye mystery series. Laurie finds a way to reinvent the series with each and every book and this one is no different. The idea to have Abby work on cold cases for the FBI is a brilliant one and as always it is fun to watch as Abby uses her "crew" to do her stuff. The cases she works on are sad ones and while the book is fiction, the cases are all too real. The dynamics of Abby working closely with the FBI agents are well done and it was interesting to read as Abby shows the agents how to get in touch with their intuition. The series isn't designed to have readers try to figure out whodunit, but instead sit back and marvel as Abby does her stuff. One thing that makes this series work so well is Abby's relationship with Dutch and her friends and Laurie perhaps cheats a bit by having all of Abby's friends either move to Texas or think about it but is still nice to see characters like Dave and Milo again. There is an underlying sense of danger throughout the book and a doozy of a plot twist that makes this book worth reading. While the plot is neatly wrapped up in this book, Laurie gives a glimpse of what the next book will be and I'm already looking forward to reading it.

"A Glimpse of Evil" is another winner by Victoria Laurie.
