Martha Jette was born in Niagara Falls, Ontario. She has two college degrees. In 1968, she graduated from the 2-year Legal Secretarial course at Mohawk College in Hamilton, Ontario with a 3.6 grade point average. In 1986, she graduated from the 3-year Print Journalism at St. Clair College in Windsor with the Dean's Award for Top of Class with a 4.0 grade point average.
For about 12 years prior to taking the journalism course, she worked as a secretary in a number of offices, including the Hamilton Sheriff's Office, lawyers and land surveyors. One year later, she was hired by the Brabant Newspaper chain and for the next 12 years was employed with several of the company's newspapers. Her first job was as Entertainment Editor of half a dozen newspapers belonging to the Brabant chain. A year later, she became Editor of the Hamilton News. She continued on to become Editor of the Flamborough News.
When the Brabant chain was sold to Southam Newspapers in the early 90's, she moved to Senior Reporter of the Dundas Star News and then later joined forces with a former Ontario provincial minister to open a new paper called the Dundas Review. 4.0 out of 5 stars It sent a chill through my spine!, November 1, 2005
This review is from: Glimpses 2 (Paperback)

Glimpses 2: It could happen to you, is a collection of 90 paranormal stories from around the world. Brought to you by Martha Jette, a retired newspaper and magazine editor from Canada, this second book is a supernatural treat you won't want to miss! Each section is split into chapters A - Q and contains a broad spectrum of subjects from `Visits from the other side', `Premonitions', `Dreams', `Angels', `Haunted Homes' to UFO's. You name it, this book has it.

Reading some stories actually made the hairs on my neck stand up and quite honestly made me feel like a child scared of the dark again! For instance, imagine never having seen a ghost before, and then one frequents your bedroom late at night and just stands at the bottom of your bed staring at you. To make matter's worse, you are only a child. How would you deal with such a frightening `gift' so young?

Have you ever been touched, but when you turn round there is no one there? Are your developed photographs showing additional people or orbs, which were not present when you took the picture? Although unsettling, this is fascinating material I adore reading. What gives this book the edge is knowing these are non-fictional accounts and photographs of unexpected visitors from another dimension. Strange, but true occurrences are happening to real people, just like you and me. It is for this reason, I feel I should also point out some of the black and white photos are not printed as well as I would like to have seen them. Having said that, in the front of the book it states quite clearly these photos are genuine candid photographs taken by amateurs. It should also come as no surprise to hear that snapshots showing spirits and paranormal entities (who give no warnings when they are going to show up) are not taken by people with the resources to `wait' or `set up' the perfect ghostly shot. Yet somehow, they have managed to capture the essence of the supernatural without even knowing it! Have you looked at your photos lately? I mean, really looked.

Martha Jette has found some interesting photos and stories to share with us. I particularly like reading about the accounts of people deemed clinically dead who are returned to the land of living because it is not their time to leave us. Did you know that some survivors of near death experiences develop newfound psychic abilities? All in all, this makes a great coffee-table book, as it is an ideal conversation starter! The actual tales were enjoyably scary and really spooked me out! More than once I found myself wondering what that `noise' was, and wishing I hadn't decided to read this alone, late at night!

There are so many memorable stories to quote, but my all-time favourite must be the haunting of nine-year old Pamela who carries her doll around with her and came back to find her lost locket and clear her father's name. There is also a good photo of both the little girl and her doll standing in front of the window.

If you are interested in hearing a cross section of real life spooky tales then this is the book for you. But it's not all fun and games. Among the heart-warming tales of returned loved ones, are the more sinister, creepy stories. Some ghostly apparitions are visitors from the evil side summoned via people messing about with Ouija boards, when they should know better. Something for everyone. Take a tip from me, don't read these stories alone, late at night or if you are of a nervous disposition, unless like me, you enjoy scaring yourself witless!

Above all, please remember, many of these situations are occurring to ordinary people who are not professional psychics. At the risk of sounding like somebody's Mum, take care and don't mess about with Ouija boards, because as Ms Jette's book title suggests, it could happen to you.

4.0 out of 5 stars Glimpses into Another World, September 13, 2009
This review is from: Glimpses 2 (Paperback)
Do UFO's exist? How about angels? Is there life after death? Do you believe in soul mates? After reading Glimpses 2 It Could Happen To You you'll be persuaded to answer a resounding `YES' to all these questions.

Martha Jette has amassed a great wealth of stories in this compilation of '90 strange but true paranormal stories from around the world.' From `Elvira the Haunted Hearse' to a powerful healer in Kuala Lumpur, from mischievous ghosts to meetings with dead family members, Glimpses 2 has something of interest for anyone sharing the need to look beyond the mundane of everyday life.

There's a lot of positive inspiration from these stories. One woman, who now practices and supports others with past life regression hypnotherapy, reported this from her experiences:
"One outcome of my past-life work is that I'm not afraid of death. I know I'll see my loved ones. I know I'll continue to learn, which is just about my all-time favourite thing. I know love goes on."

There's a very touching story of a 22 year old mother of two embroiled in a dangerous relationship and intent on committing suicide. Her father had died when she was three months of age. He came to her in a dream the night before her planned suicide and told her it wasn't her time yet. She woke from this nocturnal visit energized. She subsequently changed her plans and her life has turned into a positive adventure since then..

A Michigan woman's experiences of something called retro-cognition are thought provoking. She felt crippling pain in her legs at the exact times the hijacked planes crashed into the Twin Towers on September 11, 2001.

Glimpses 2 serves as an undeniable reminder there is more to life than what we see in the physical world. The book has the capacity to expand the awareness of readers and to open a gateway into a world of spirit, a world perhaps more valid and real than our shared world of day-to-day life. Buy it. Read it. It may alter your perceptions and help you, too, overcome the fear of death.

5.0 out of 5 stars An intimate study of the Afterlife and the Unknown, March 17, 2006
This review is from: Glimpses 2 (Paperback)
Interest in the Other Side has escalated since 9/11: at least that's been my impression. With the world being in the turmoil that it's currently experiencing, people have turned to spirituality to either make Divine sense of all that's happening, or get some reassurance that the next stage of existance will be better. In exploring and filling that need, Martha Jette gives us the benefit of her own experience as well as that of carefully chosen interview subjects.

There's always been a desperate hope that our loved ones are never truly gone, and Martha's research offers ample evidence that it's only the body that dies, not the spirit that propels it. With segments devoted to visits from the other side, animal spirits, and visiting via dreams, "Glimpses 2" is chilling yet comforting. It's a rare blend that you don't normally see in a book about the paranormal, and Martha Jette is to be commended for achieving that end result.

"Glimpses 2" is a multidimensional work that enlightens, educates, and even cautions where necessary. Well done.
