Really a fun read..the trivia and gossip is really interesting and the book flows well..it's a very quick read. If you have any interest in Long Island or just fun gossip of the Blue Blood WASP, then you will love this book. Highly recommended.

4.0 out of 5 stars Lost Mansions on the Gold Coast, June 5, 2008
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Glitter That Was Once Gold: Long Island Gold Coast Trivia (Paperback)
A one-of-a-kind collection of short stories of mostly lost mansions of the Gold Coast region of Long Island. It is always with great sadness when one learns of the lost great estates and mansion houses which we can now never see. One wonders why the children and grandchildren of the wealthy so often were not able to keep the homes of their ancestors from the wrecker's ball. This small book actually can help to save the remaining homes as it is a guide to what remains and contains information (addresses and telephone numbers) on how to visit these treasures. I found this item to be a helpful addition to my architectural book library. (LarryLufkin@comcast.net)

2.0 out of 5 stars Glitter That Was Once Gold, November 27, 2007
This review is from: Glitter That Was Once Gold: Long Island Gold Coast Trivia (Paperback)
Poorly organized information that leaves you flipping pages in order follow the content. Information is not cited and sometimes contradicts that from other sources. Overall a quick and fun if not frivolous read however, it will leave those in search of a more complete history on these estates, owners and their current conditions hanging.
