I have to agree with PR. This product shows promise, but the delivery isn't perfected yet. A few things to note:

1) There is no help system, either within the program or on-line. Clicking on the "?" yields a message that you should e-mail tech support. Not an efficient way to provide basic help.

2) There is also no user manual. There are some YouTube videos on-line, but they only provide superficial information.

3) Some people may be interested to know that after installation, you cannot uninstall the program using the Control Panel add/remove feature. You have to manually uninstall it, using a "4-step" procedure that they will e-mail to you (but which actually contains only 3 steps).

4) When using the Timeline feature, I get repeated error messages that shut down the program. I have e-mailed the details of this error message to technical support. The only response I got was "The only thing I can think of is to uninstall and reinstall the program." Which I did, and which did not solve the problem.

5) There is no detailed FAQ that presents information about using the program or solving specific problems.

6) I have found numerous places, particularly in captions for pictures, where the English grammar is faulty. It's almost as if they were written by someone for whom English isn't a first language.

7) There is no reference list: who were the contributors, who exactly did what, what are their qualifications. The bulk of the material is anonymous.

Having said all that, I have to admit that I like the program--I think it's a good idea and very appealing. It needs a lot of work and "fixing", but I'm willing to give them time and see what they can do with it. There have already been several updates since release, so I'm hopeful that those will start to solve existing problems relatively soon.

I've only had this software for a day but installed it on two of my computers with out a hitch. If I have any problems with this software I will update this review immediately.

4.0 out of 5 stars Digital Devotional Aid, November 27, 2009
By
This review is from: Glo. The Bible for a Digital World. (DVD-ROM)
Customer review from the Amazon Vine™ Program (What's this?)
The Glo digital Bible is an interactive devotional aid. If you seeking to deepen your knowledge of the Bible or simply seeking to grow as a Christian, this will be a great inspirational tool for you to have in your home. This is a terrific resource for youth leaders, small group leaders or lay ministers.

There are three DVDs of content for you to install on your computer. The installation took me over an hour to complete. The installation includes an online update, so you are sure to get the latest in fixes and upgrades when you install. Due to the large amount of HD content and graphical material, this program requires 18GB of free space on your drive. It will also perform best if you have 1GB or more of memory. You will want to use this on a fairly new computer system, not more than three years old.

There are no help files or books included with the content. The best way to learn how to use it is just to jump right in and make some mistakes. A good starting place is the "My Apps" section where you can click "In His Shoes" and take a tour of the life of Jesus.

The actual Bible materials are from the NIV and the commentary notes are not annotated. This would not be the right digital Bible to purchase if you are an academic, there is little in the way of Hebrew or Greek or original language content.

Overall, this is a refreshing, new take on the Bible. I am enjoying this new perspective and content.

1.0 out of 5 stars Wait for Glo, November 25, 2009

I was very excited to purchase Glo after watching the promo video. The long install didn't bother me, but the program just isn't ready. The program lagged and was very sluggish on a Dell XPS 1330 with a core 2 processor, 3 gb of ram, and an Nvidia graphics card. When navigating their maps, the program would completely lock-up and crash. Also, the entire My Glo section is not even set-up yet. It is obvious that the product was not ready to ship and they rushed it out the door. How do you ship a program like this without an uninstall option. I had to e-mail the company and they sent me these instructions.

Delete GLO's registry keys

Please follow these steps.

--------Delete GLO's registry keys--------
1- Click the START button
2- Windows Vista: In "start search" field, type the word "regedit"
Windows XP: In the "Run" type the word "regedit"
3- Click "Ok"
4- Click the '+' sign next to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE to open it
5- Click the '+' sign next to SOFTWARE to open it
6- To delete Glo's registry key, single-click the folder called "IMMERSION DIGITAL" and Press the DELETE key on your keyboard.
7- When RegEdit asks you to confirm the deletion, click YES
8- Close the RegEdit window and move to the next step below

--------Delete Program folder--------

In Windows XP:
1- Click on the Start button, select "Computer"
2- Click on the C Drive
3- Click on the Program Files folder

In Vista:
1- Click on the Start button, select "My Computer"
2- Click on the C Drive
3- Windows Vista 32 bits: Click on the Program Files folder
Windows Vista 64 bits: Click on the Program Files (x86) folder
4- Delete the Immersion Digital folder you will see in there
5- Move to the next step below

--------Delete data folder--------

In Windows XP:
1- Click on Start
2- Click on "My Computer"
3- Click on C:
5- Click on "Documents and Settings"
6- Click on "username" (your user name), also check under "All Users"
7- Click on "Local Settings"
8- Click on "Application Data"
9- Delete the "Glo" folder (or "Immersion Digital" folder)

On Windows Vista:
1- Click on "Start"
2- Click on "Computer"
3- Click on C:
4- Click on "ProgramData"
5- Delete the "Glo" folder
6- Move to the next step below

(If your computer displays a message like "this folder is hidden" simply click to "show all" so you can see its content)

This will remove Glo completely from your computer. Then you can install Glo cleanly from the beginning. There are several updates that will be available for you to download during the installation process, so please make sure that you get all of the updates.

I mean come on. The program looks great, but it still needs some work. I would wait to see if they update it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Glo. the Bible for a Digital World, November 24, 2009
This review is from: Glo. The Bible for a Digital World. (DVD-ROM)
I love this product!! With one click I have an entire Bible library and the History Channel in my hands!
The interface is easy to use and very cool looking. I had everyone looking over my shoulder wanting to see what I was doing. We plug in a couple words and all learned more in 5 minutes than researching for hours. Videos are crisp the wordsearch is wonderful. I was able to visit Capernaum for the first time, walk with Peter through the maps, watch and see landmarks along the Sea of Galilee and then sit back for a documentary. This changes Bible Study forever. Thanks for such an ambitious product.

I love this product! It is a great addition to my life in the word. The navigation tools are awesome and I really like how you can search on more than one criteria. I did have some difficulties with the install. I contacted the tech support email and received a message the following day to try the install with the firewall and antivirus off. This however did not work for me so I contacted support again and they emailed me with a remote session invitation. I am happy to say that it is up and running now and I truly enjoy using this software.

5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome toolkit for Bible study - worth the money, November 24, 2009

Customer review from the Amazon Vine™ Program (What's this?)
After toying with the Glo Bible, I have to say that I am impressed overall with this program for the amount of money it costs. It has a great interface, relevant information, powerful visuals and adequate content. With a few technical flaws that can be worked out in future versions, this is difficult to pass up.

The interface is obviously designed in the vein of the Apple school of user-friendly being king. In fact, the whole interface reminded me of my iMac days. There are some clunky things though, because it eats up a huge amount of RAM and on my machine I couldn't run other programs without bogging down. The interface has 5 different options: Bible (read the scripture with notes and access to other media), Atlas (start with the geography and then access the other features), Timeline (begin with the time frame and then access the other features), Topical (begin with your topic)and finally, Media (listing of the entire media library of videos, maps, photos etc.). But overall, everything was easy to find and made sense. I could tell when I opened the package that it was going to be well-designed.

The information in this program is adequate for some intense Bible study. I also own the Logos Bible software and if you want to have access to the same tools as Bible scholars, you will have to shell out the hundreds that are required to get Logos. But if you are simply looking for a fun way to study your Bible in a much more in depth way than just reading 7 chapters a day, this is well worth your money. A couple of things that it doesn't have that I wish it did: only comes with KJV and NIV tranlations. A parallel Bible option would be awesome. Also, some of the articles are more simplistic and could be more thorough. But while I haven't exhaustively read through the material yet, it seemed to be well researched and biblically sound.

There are a few technical things that must be worked out though. If you have an old machine (mine is 5 years old and barely adequate to run this program) you might want to make due with your paper Bible until you upgrade. But, if you have a machine that has some horsepower, you really should check this out. I think it will help energize Bible study and give you a better understanding through the power of visuals and linking information.

5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome, October 12, 2009
This review is from: Glo. The Bible for a Digital World. (DVD-ROM)
Wow, from the feel to the look of the product, from the well designed navigation tools to stunning displays, the software just blows me away and motivates me to read and dig into my Bible deeper. It took awhile to install the software, because it requires the latest software, but it was all worth it when the beautiful black screen with five lenses appeared. I love using Glo, thrilled about maps and photos, the control I have to navigate and to search and so much more. Brilliantly designed software, all to help one read the Bible and to actually know it.

The Glo Bible is absolutely amazing! Seriously, it's the Bible like you've never seen it before. There is history and geography, arts, culture and spirituality. Over 450 virtual tours! Over 3 hours of high def videos. Audio. Literally thousands of high-resolution photographs. Thousands of articles. Scores of maps. 650 works of art. Then there's "MyGlo" where you can save your own personal notes, bookmarks, Bible reading plans, etc. This is just an amazing program for understanding your Bible on a much deeper level! Very Highly Recommended!

5.0 out of 5 stars Glo is Amazing, October 30, 2009
This review is from: Glo. The Bible for a Digital World. (DVD-ROM)
This is an updated post from Glo's initial launch. I had so much trouble with it that I returned it back then. However, they have made this software web-based, and I also have the app for my iPad. It is everything I had hoped for 2 years ago. The content being made available on the web, the UI, and all the features make this the best software you can get. It has several translations, and the Message paraphrase available inside the App. This is what software application should be in this day and age...fabulous. thank you for the work you have put into this product to improve it, and make it everything it should have been from the start.
