Glorious!,
This review is from: Glo (Audio CD)
I bought this cd when it was released in the United Kingdom, so I've had months to listen and fall in love with this music. The first song really gets my toes tapping when I'm driving. I love the actual monks chanting and the awesome sound of fans singing, "We're going to the house of God; we're going to the house of God; are you coming?" It gets me into the mood to praise God.The highlight of this album for me is the track "My Glorious." I have been a D: fan since I heard them in the UK back in 1997. And I have kneeled and prayed while listening to their songs, clapped and shouted to their songs. But this track is like no other. They have a group of fans singing the chorus, and I can just imagine myself with them. And after singing the words "My glorious, my glorious" over many times, the fans just erupt in cheers, while the band plays and sings over them. It is amazing. I have actually cried for joy while listening and singing to this song...SEVERAL times! No music has ever had that effect on me. If you want to be lifted into worship AND to enjoy some great pop and harder rock sounds, buy this album. You will not be disappointed. One word of warning though: If you like softer praise music, you will like Cutting Edge much more than this album. But if you like rock that rocks, this is the best one yet!

An incredible worship experience!,

When you hear the Delirious is releasing another worship cd, then you immediately know it's going to be good. All that's left to ask now is: "How good?" The answer is simple: "Incredible!" This cd is unique in that there are 4 "Glo" cuts that are spontaneous worship times when the band was finished with a song but felt led to continue playing and flowing afterward. Definitely not your usual studio album! Several great songs on here, as well as an updated "Jesus' Blood" from the "Mezzamorphis" cd. "Awaken the Dawn" is great, and the first song "God You are my God" is fabulous! No doubt you'll be hearing these songs rotate through worship services of churches everywhere before long! I know they'll be in our youth services very soon!

GLOriously Stratospheric.,

Now that Delirious is big-time mainstream in America (you've all seen Martin "Smiff" singing live at Wembley on the Weather Channel commercials), with sold-out concerts in Nashville and Houston, you'd expect the boys from Britain to blend into the rest of the Christian music scene and get predictable on us. WRONGO!! Glo is an amazingly unpredictable, surprising, creative-to-the-max work of art. They've got singing monks on here, for heaven's sake! (no pun intended). They've got bagpipes, choirs, string quartets, and oh yeah, screaching guitars that will send smoke through your speakers. GLO is short for Glorious, and this CD will lift you into the glorious heights of the majesty of God. As others have noted, some of the best stuff on here can be found on the spontaneous "Glo In The Dark" tracks which are extensions of the previous songs (my favorite part of the whole CD is when Martin says "Here we go, boys!" on "Glo In The Dark Part 3). "God's Romance" is a great rock-n-roll worship party song with a hint of Achtung Baby-esque production tricks. "My Glorious" is another, well, "glorious" power-worship tune, and the songs "Everything" (with a cool video; rain, wind, fire: kind of reminds you of the Holy Spirit, eh?), "Hang On To You", "Awaken The Dawn", and "The Years Go By" are magnificent. And those are just the loud songs! The quiet, introspective songs are excellent, too. "God You Are My God" is a classic. The d: boys have done it again.

3 Words___THE BEST EVER,
By Jonny D. (Indiana) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Glo (Audio CD)
This is album is quite simply put, the greatest creation to ever grace a CD player. Delirious rocks on this album, and re-invents the category that they almost singlehandedly created, which is rock praise and worship. Every song on this CD is phenomenol. There are absolutely no filler tracks on this CD. This band uses their great 5 set band to produce a variety of incredible sounds for the CD.Highlights include (oh wait, there all highlights!). Well, the highlights I'm going to mention are, God You are My God, Investigate, Awaken the Dawn, Intimate Stranger, and My Glorious. My Glorious....simply the best song ever created. The band starts this out as a hard rock song, then go into singing the chorus of My Glorious over and over again. They did this in front of a crowd of 150 people, and when they get about 4:30 into the song, the music eventually grows louder, till the crowd and band erupt into a moment of absolute worship. It's so great! You can hear the crowd going bonkers in the background. Martin Smith and the D:boys just sing and play their hearts out to God not only on this song, but all of them, and it truly shows. This album is perhaps the best music I've ever heard. Being a musician I know how great these guys are, and how tight they are. It's phenomal to hear 5 guys that are extremely talented, humbly pouring themselves out to God in humble worship. These guys rock! In a few years, Delirious? will have broken through into the mainstream. As good as they are now, and if they continue to improve, they'll be one of the greatest bands of all time. One things for sure though, being rock stars will never change these guys, they'll always be worshippers of God Even if you don't own much Christian music, this is a great album to buy. Get it today Jonny D P.S.---I agree with the guy's comment below. If the worhsip band of angels in heaven ever get tired, I'm sure Delirious? will be the first people God asks to fill in. LOL

From the UK - and proud of it!,
By Mark Wells (Bucks, United Kingdom) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Glo (Audio CD)
You know being from the UK can sometimes be really annoying. Over there in the US you get stuff cheaper and faster than us, but this time the UK wins! Not only can I be proud that such a top quality ablum came from a band from Littlehampton, England, but also it was released over in England first too! [With a better cover :-) ]. Having bought this album on day of relese in July in the UK [at least 2 months before you lot :-p ], I can say with confidence that it really does exceed expectations incredibly. If you're looking for another "Mezzamorphis" then this isn't it - this is a worship album, a sort of cross between "Mezzamorphis" and "King of Fools". But don't let this put you off - it still rocks bigtime. This is Delirious' heart, pure and simple, and the focus and glory (as usual) goes to God. The way in which Delirious achieve this is something truly special. This CD will rock my sound system for a long time......and then a bit longer.

"High Church" Modern Worship,
By J Lee Harshbarger (Ypsilanti, MI United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Glo (Audio CD)
I got this album in mid-2001, and sensed that it was something special, but it just never hit the right mood for me. Then in late summer 2002, when I was reading about the Orthodox and Catholic churches and church history, this album hit me in the right spot. I call this "high church modern worship." The opening song sets the tone with a call to worship in Gregorian chant. Then the electric guitars begin and the sung words, "God, You are my God...." Other words from this grand opening song are, "I've seen Your power and Your glory; You've let me see You in the sanctuary...." What also makes this a good opening song is the phrase repeated by the background choral singers, "Come to the house of God." This is a song that just sets the tone for a time of awe-inspiring worship of the Powerful One. It's very classy music. After the main portion of the song, as Delirious? is known to do from time to time, they just continue to play, no words, just in continued worship, expressing their awe of God. The second song features the "church people" singing "Holy is the Lord." Then for the next two songs, things quiet down, and these are the types of songs that Delirious? does that normally put me to sleep, but on this album, there is such a special sense of worship about it, I don't completely lose it, although more often than not I skip these tracks. Things waken up again on the fifth song, "My Glorious," which is a strong, grand, powerful statement of God's power: "God is bigger than the air I breathe...God will save the day, and all will say `My glorious [God]...'" We sing this song quite frequently at the church I go to (Ann Arbor Vineyard). The next three songs are mellow again. Sometimes I listen to them, but I ALWAYS skip "Hang On To You," which is dreadful Barry Manilow type music. What were they thinking??? The third mellow song, "Intimate Stranger," has a quiet worshipful instrumental lingering at the end, and then suddenly, excitement bursts forth as the next track begins, "Awaken The Dawn." The chorus of this song goes, "You are the Lord, the Savior of all, God of creation we praise You." This is a very grand, majestic song. And something else special about this? An important instrument in it is bagpipes! Now when is the last time you heard bagpipes in a modern worship song? But it works. It's quite awesome, especially at the end of the song when they go into one of their extended worshipful instrumental meanderings again, and the bagpipes come to the forefront. Like all Delirious? albums, this one is highly variable in quality--in my book anyway--with great fast songs and boring slow songs--but this is by far their best album ever. The good songs are so good, they make the whole album strong enough to put it at #5 on my list of Favorite CDs of 2002. This is an incredible worship experience. I have played this album a lot--and continue to play it--mostly just my favorite tracks, but those 4 songs I love are 27 minutes in length, enough for nearly any trip in the car around town. Some whole albums I have are not much longer than 27 minutes, so there's plenty for me to enjoy with just these four songs. This album is such a Delirious? masterpiece that I doubted even they could follow up with anything as good. And in fact, their follow-up album, "Touch," is nothing of the experience that "Glo" is, although it does have a different focus so it's hard to compare directly. When you are in the mood for high church worship using modern rock music, when you're in the mood for majestic, grand worship of God, this is the album to listen to.

They did it again!!,

Deliriou5?.... They are a band that never cease to amaze me. I think the new wave of worship in today's generation started with this band when they came out with their first release on cd titled "cutting edge" ever since then, Praise and Worship music wasn't going to be the same. Deliriou5? have been a model for praise and worship for many years and many bands such as sONICFLOOD, Tree63, Matt Redman, The Passion Band, Mercy Me, The Vineyard Church etc.. have all been highly influenced by this band. As one of my older brother's would say this band is TREMENDOUS. And to think after 7 YEARS! of releasing music and revolutionizing praise and worship that they would GET BACk into it and do it again by releasing this INCREDIBLE worship experience of an album. If you want to experience true worship this is the album to buy. From track one through fifteen you will not be dissapointed I guarantee you. ANd i'm not saying this just because i've been a fan for such a long time but their consistancy to impress me with every album I just find that, there is something good going on with this band. The spontaneous sections on this album just give this album much more flavor and something more to listen to than just words but rather just good worship music. The cd glo is all the more worth your money and i would highly recommend this to anyone who is big fan of praise and worship music as well as any other contemporary music because I guarantee you will get something good out of it. They did again.

Not quite Praise & Worship, But great stuff!,
By Mark Ward (Capitola, CA) - See all my reviews

Although I'm a fan, this album was being promoted as the follow up to "Cutting Edge". Sorry, but I just don't see it. I do enjoy the album, but it isn't in the same genre as "Cutting Edge". As a worship leader, I've used somewhere around ten of the songs from "Cutting Edge" in congregational worship. Martin Smith is an amazing songwriter and worshipper... I was just hoping for some more great worship material, and didn't get it. If you like "Mezzamorphis" and "King Of Fools", (and I do by the way) you will like this as well! Just don't expect songs like "I Could Sing Of Your Love Forever", "I've Found Jesus" and "Find Me In The River".

Passionate and Emotional.,
By Andy Williamson (Chicago, IL) - See all my reviews

This CD will knock you on your butt. What is this!? A hard rock band that mixes dual guitars, great vocal harmonies, Radiohead-like drum work and textures, and play...worship music!? You have got to be kidding me? No. I am not kidding. This disc rocks. Period. Delirious have always been known to be great songwriters, but here they raise the bar so high-I wonder if even they will be able to reach the new goals they are setting for themselves. This disc plays like a worship/concept album. Many of the songs tie together remarkably well. Transitions are seamless. The music exudes passion and the lyrics cut to the heart. Powerful, and easily one of the best rock albums of the last ten years. If you are not convinced, listen to "My Glorious" and "Awaken the Dawn". Enough said.Highly recommended.

What can I call this album? Oh yeah--BRILLIANT!,

This review is from: Glo (Audio CD)
This album is Delirious at their experimental and worshipful best. Coming on the heels of the alternative-heavy "Mezzamorphis," this album "Glo" is the group still playing around with new sounds and returning to their worshipful roots. Best cuts on the album and why:"God You are My God" - a lively praise tune that mixes funk, rock, a Gregorian-like monks' choir, and a dynamic gospel choir. I can't get enough of this song! "God's Romance" - a guitar-driven rock song that pumps up your adrenaline while proclaiming God's love at the same time. "My Glorious" & "Everything" - two powerhouse rock songs that incorporate that great gospel choir again. "Everything" is such a fantastic, fun song that starts off with "It's a beautiful day..." (and Martin Smith must wonder why he and d:boyz so often get compared to U2 *snerk!*) "Awaken the Dawn" - this is a pure praise song that incorporates (of all things) bagpipes. In fact, the Glo sequence (or the spontaneous music) is focused on Stu G.'s guitar and the bagpipes. It's so awesome! (But then, I love bagpipes, so I'm a bit biased!) "The Years Go By" - a beautiful contemplative song. My advice, buy this album.... |
