5.0 out of 5 stars You will not be disappointed
It doesn't matter what you label it as - and goth this is not in my idiom - it is just great music. If you like great mellow female vocals this is it. I don't know the name of the singer but she has the most amazing voice. There are songs where there is nothing but her straight voice - very few can do this. The music has instant appeal but stands the test of time. Even...

3.0 out of 5 stars Great but not that great
Half good, half bad. For a duo which are renowned for producing catchy goth electro and are starting to emerge from the underground, I expected a fair bit more - especially after hearing "Bound In Blood" (which is a superb track). I don't know the name of the singer but she has the most amazing voice. There are songs where there is nothing but her straight voice - very few can do this. The music has instant appeal but stands the test of time. Even more than six months later, it remains on the "top ten" cd pile - and I have hundreds of CD's. The remix disc is a bonus although it does not get the play of the main CD. This CD is great and it stands the test of time.

5.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful Melancholy, March 14, 2003

I've only been exploring goth music for a mere few months now but I have been a fan of Hungry Lucy for over a year and was very excited about getting my hands on their second album "Glo". About a month ago I finally obtained a copy of their debut release and, since I was already familiar with 90% of the material found on "Apparitions" because of available streams and downloads, I was awaiting their new album with great anticipation. And while that album was creative and simply mind-blowing, "Glo" triumphs and outshines it by a long-shot! The enchanting vocals of Christa Belle have matured beautifully and her songwriting has also drastically improved. I find the production to sound better as well, and the songs are much, much catchier. I still consider Hungry Lucy to be a goth band but they delve further into the trip-hop scene with Warn-N-Harrison experimenting with electronica on "Could It Be?" and even a bit of pagan pop (or whatever you wanna call it!) on the mystical magic found on "In The Circle". "Last October" is about a love dead to lost emotion but I still find it heartwarming because the references to October and Halloween make me think of someone I deeply care about. The song "Glo" also holds a lot of meaning to me as I dedicate it to my twin soul!

There are two CDs on Hungry Lucy's "Glo" and disk 2 features some incredible remixes ranging from house to mellow acoustics, and they're rearranged by some amazing artists, such as Claire Voyant, Chandeen, Dreamside, and many more.
I'd describe the music on "Glo" to be melancholy beauty because it surpasses the cryptic gloom of most other goth groups but remains in the shade while everyone else plays in the sun.
I see nothing but promise for Hungry Lucy and I'm looking forward to all future releases.

3.0 out of 5 stars Great but not that great, July 4, 2004

Half good, half bad. For a duo which are renowned for producing catchy goth electro and are starting to emerge from the underground, I expected a fair bit more - especially after hearing "Bound In Blood" (which is a superb track). Some of the tracks on this album are so positive and sentimental it's like listening to the cheesiest pop music and that's very disappointing. I want misery and pessimism! The opening track, "Could It Be", would have to be the best track on the entire album. "Fearless" sounds a lot like an early Madonna song, Christa's vocals even sound very similar to Madonna. "Telltale Shot" is truly one of the most beautiful melancholy goth tracks I've ever heard. It's a shame that pretty much all the other tracks, including "In The Circle", all sound too much alike and the album gets very boring quite quickly. The fact that Hungry Lucy are capable of producing such fantastic and original tracks such as "Bound In Blood", "Could It Be" and "Telltale Shot" makes you wonder why the rest of this album is so bad as they have great potential. If it wasn't for the few good tracks and remixes, not to mention Christa's amazing voice, nothing would save this album from being a complete dud. I anticipate a much better third album.

5.0 out of 5 stars I think this a very creative group, November 11, 2004
This review is from: Glo (Audio CD)
I am not sure what the other reviewers are expecting to hear. Actually I was not sure either. This group start on one level of existance and travels on to other levels of existence while continuing to evolve!!!! Open your creative mind and injoy, besides she has one of the most soft haunting voices in this dark wave/gothic/pop/etheral style, while still expanding into new relms of existence. A fan for life!!!!!!!!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Glowing Praise!, February 5, 2003

"Glo" is amazing. "Apparitions" was a great CD, but Hungry Lucy has seriously progressed musically, vocally and lyrically. "Last October", "Rebirth", "Telltale Shot" and "Glo" are among the albums finest tracks, and the best kept secrets considering several of the tracks ("storm", "fearful" and "in the circle") had been out in the form of remixes, mp3s and/or performed for a few months prior to the release. This Disc is strong from beginning to end. The artwork is beautiful as well, which makes "Glo" all the better. The overall sound is full and more organic, while the electronic elements are still there and blend perfectly.

Disc 2 features excellent remixes to balance out the emotional intensity of Disc 1 with club friendly tempos and a few atmospherics.

Put this CD in your cart today.

4.0 out of 5 stars Extremely promising and enjoyable, March 13, 2003
This review is from: Glo (Audio CD)
Hungry Lucy are exeptional artists. Christa Belle's voice is quite a subtle yet consuming vessel and her and war-n's music gives a sort of civil and base vibe laying down the at times fecisious crutch of noises that staple alot of modern electronic music. The song Fearfull is an awesome song descended of Depeche Mode overtones and despite forseeable comparisons to Sarah Mclaughlin and Dido, Hungy Lucy are a total breath of fresh air supplying listeners with their untouched and remarkably independent journey of music. Virtually every song on the album seems to be a take on diffrent genres of (mostly electronic) music such as "Celtic" and "New Jazz"... whatever it is, its in here and is done really well. My 4 star rating comes from my desire to see Hungry Lucy secure a base structure enough to mood the album more then its obvious and still nice variations in genre.

3.0 out of 5 stars Glo again., August 12, 2003
This review is from: Glo (Audio CD)
I fell in love with Hungry Lucy after their first album "Apparitions". Such beautiful haunting lyrics and dark music just captured me completely. Their second effort "Glo" is another step forward for the duo. The songs are a lot slower and seem to lack the "goth" feel that their first album had. This album is def. worth a listen though, as there are some worthwhile songs and the remix cd that comes with is brilliant. My only problem with the CD is alot of the songs sound the same, in contrast to "Apparitions". But I think Hungry Lucy is just growing as a band and trying different things, I look forward to their next release!!

Well worth the money. One of the best vocalists I've heard, Mazzy Star meets Switchblade Symphony. On top of that, my daughter AND my mother love it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Good Album, May 22, 2004

I was in the mood to branch out and try some different "off the beaten path" music that had catchy female vocals and bought this CD based on the recommendations here.

I'm quite pleased with the quality of this album. Production qualities are top notch, most of the songs have a haunting somberness with strong, ringing vocals from the duets female vocalist. The remix CD (2nd disc included) nicely balances this out with jazzed up remixes of several of the tracks on the first CD.

It is apparent that Hungry Lucy is a pretty underrated band and will only get better with subsequent releases.

If you're looking for something different, something that is both relaxing and catchy to listen to, then this CD might be a good choice for you.

I just went for it and bought the CD but I'm not really impressed, not that she doesn't have talent...it's just not a very good album. She could do better.
