Excessive, but excessively cool!, August 6, 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: Global 3-Inch Serrated Tomato Knife (Kitchen)
I admit, a high-end knife that is meant to cut only tomatoes seems like an excessive purchase. But I love mine! It effortlessly glides through delicate tomato skin without mushing the tomato into pulp. It's also great for other fruits and vegetables that have a thin but tough to cut skin, like figs or eggplant. A great addition to your Global arsenal, but do buy some a few of the multi-tasking knives first.

Incredible Knife, Just Too Short for my Tomato, June 28, 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: Global 3-Inch Serrated Tomato Knife (Kitchen)
I am a big fan of Global knives. They are wonderfully balanced, expertly sharp, and heaven to hold. This knife is no exception. I have quite a collection, myself. However, to call this knife a "Tomato Knife," at only 3inches long, is nuts in my book; that is, of course, unless you're talking about cherry tomatoes! The knife does glide through the skin effortlessly, as another has said, and the meat of the tomato is certainly not a challenge for the knife, either. But it's so short that the knife can get hung-up down in the tomato when you're trying to cut through. I wondered about this, but I purchased it anyway. It's great on avacados: if you use it to cut them in half the long way, and then use the back of the knife to cross-cut the insides of the halves, then turn the halves inside out, and scrape out the little squares of the avacado meat. But if you really want a great serrated knife that's long enough to cut through tomatoes with ease and room to spare, get the Global 6-inch Serrated Utility Knife. It's a must have, anyway.
