3.0 out of 5 stars A thoroughly refreshing take on metallic jazz, October 3, 2002

Metallic jazz? Yeah, that's what comes to my mind. Not jazz progressions with metal guitars, but a jazz mentality with a hard rock taste. Instead of progressions ala trad jazz, you have some serious riffs upon which you have a talented trio rippin it up and tearing it down. Jedd Haas, the guitarist in this power trio, wrote all the originals here, and the band turns in a sweet cover of Bill Frisell's classic "Strange Meeting". The songs are completely instrumental, and like Freddie King's instrumentals of yore, they serve the song in ways lyrics can't. These aren't loose jams, these are tight songs with themes upon which three energetic musicians jam their asses off.

Now...why three stars? Because there's less than a half-hour of music here, and above all else, my copy is on a cd-r. That leaves me with an unsettled feeling as to whether it was burned or pressed. I don't want to have to buy this record again because my first copies' burn pattern eroded. As for the music...five star quality in composition and performance. Hope to hear more from them in the future.
