This hinge works, but as the other reviewer stated only after a lot of experimentation and, in my case, cursing.

Here is my version of the instructions.

Attach the hinge to the door and frame. Use the Allen wrench in the slot on the top of the hinge to tighten the spring. I installed the hinges on the right side of the door with the Allen slot facing up - I had to turn the spring to the left to make the spring close the door. Reverse that to make the door swing open. Turn the Allen wrench and then jam the long metal bar (pointy end first) into the last visible hole. Pull out the Allen wrench and replace it so you can turn it again. Repeat until you get the tension you want or the limits of your strength. Jam one of the short pins into the last visible hole. Ease back on the Allen wrench until the pin stop the turning. Note that you cannot put the pin in when the long metal bar is in another hole (that learning cost me more than a couple of curses).

If you want to be meticulous, I recommend taping some cardboard to the door frame. I left some dings where the hinge put pressure on the Allen wrench

We needed a solution to keep my toddler from going down the basement stairs. These are great for peace of mind, as now the door swings closed automatically.

However, installation was a challenge because there were no instructions. the hinge screws on like any other, but you need to "set" the tension appropriately, and it took some effort to figure out how.

PRO:
- Does exactly what is says it'll do.
- Doesn't stand out, looks like any other hinge
- Tension is adjustable to keep door from slamming

CONS:
- Installation and adjustment are difficult due to no instructions

They sent ordinary hinges initially but sent replacements the very next day. No instructions included but not hard to figure out. Work as advertised on my interior (hollow) door. Very happy with this purchase.

I purchased this spring hinge to avoid conflicts in the swing of two doors. I found the hinge an easy replacement for the original and its installation was intuitive. It is a high quality product and very unobtrusive. You don't notice that it is a different type of hinge. In short, its design is elegant in its simplicity. Great door hinge, works well and you can adjust the tension. Only reason I gave it four stars was for the lack of instructions. Read the other comments on here for directions on installing.

It would have been nice if it had come with instructions. But thankfully I read SMB's review prior to installing. That made it a breeze and it was done in a few minutes. Garage door closes automatically like it's supposed to!

I purchased this item to keep a powder room door open rather than closed. I had tried several times to keep the door from gradually closing, but had no success. When I saw this spring hinge, I decided to give it a try. To solve my problem I installed the hinge upside down and it works perfectly. Initially, the tension setting would move the door into a full open position when the lock was unlatched. I relaxed the tension setting and now the hinge holds the door in a full open postion and I feel no resistance when closing the door. It is strange that there are no instructions, but it's not difficult to understand how it works.

Works relatively well and installed easily. My only problem was that the Allen screw used to tension the spring stripped and now I can't make it any stronger. It almost closes the door but not quite, hence the two stars.

Used instructions in the first review. Took 3mins to install. I only replaced the middle hinge on an existing door. All holes lined up to what I already had. Screwed hinge to door and wall. Allen Head hole on the hinge pointing to the top toward ceiling. With door closed, insert allen wrench in top hole, and turn toward the door. Put pin in one of the holes in the horizontal slot. Choose pin placement that is closest to the wall/molding. Change the pin placement until you get the door to tension to be what you want. Can not believe how great this works. Exactly what I was looking for. Really heavy duty.

I give this product a 5 star. It does what it is suppose to do. Though the instructions was missing, SMB's instructions (first review) made the installation a breeze. Now, I don't have to yell across the house for someone to close the bathroom door.
