You are probably wondering why just 2 stars. That is an unfortunate thing. This product was purchased by me so that I could use it with roomie remote or irule. Either way, I was going to be able to control my projector, dvd player, tv, etc, etc. If I had a powered projector screen, I could even control that. But, you can only control it if the firmware matches up with what you need. If the firmware doesn't match, then...

The GC-100 family of products cannot be upgraded in the field. An upgrade to the current version of the firmware requires the unit be sent back to Global Caché. You ship the GC-100 to Global Caché where it is upgraded, tested, repaired (when necessary), and shipped back to you. The upgrade takes one business day unless repairs are needed. Call 541-899-4800 or email support@globalcache.com and request a Return Material Authorization (RMA) number and shipping information. Units will be returned via UPS ground unless other arrangements are made. If your unit is no longer within warranty, upgrades require a $35 service charge.

This is taken directly from their support website,[...], and shows that they have this as their standard. They do not have an option for anyone to upgrade this themselves. So, if you've mounted this, you need to make sure you can unmount it.

I love the concept, but am disappointed with a company that charges for usability. You can't even use their internal applications, [...], because they are just for the current firmware versions. So, if you ever get behind in firmware, then you are at their mercy. Global Cache requires you mail this product to them. So, you need to unmount it, disconnect all the cables from it, make sure you label everything, then mail it back to them.

I have a TV and AV receiver controlled through serial ports, a blu-ray IP controlled player, as well as AppleTV, and PS3, and insteon lighting.
All are controlled through this device using Roomie Remote on an iPad Mini.
Reliable and no noticeable latency.
I should add that this device is replacing several iTach devices that needed many wall warts, IP connections, had bad latency issues, and some would even lock up, or used excessive power.
In other words, this is a mature reliable product that works well, so I'm happy to have that with a poor firmware update process over a more modern set of devices that have many other disadvantages, but an easier firmware upgrade.

This is a good, reliable product, and works as designed. Repsonse times are really quick! Giving it only 4 stars because the firmware isn't user-upgradeable.

I've used a couple of different iPad/iPhone apps with this and it works great. I mainly use Irule, but it works with most home theater apps and home automation. It will control all of your A/V equipment as well as garage, sprinklers, etc with its built in relay control. Controls all of my it devices, gives me rs232 control of my receiver with settings and feedback volume on my iPad, lights and garage door. That's a lot for the money. Highly recommend.
