Editorial Reviews

From School Library Journal

Grade 9 Up - These books discuss the formation, training exercises, and operations of counterterrorist forces. The first title looks at international efforts from post-World War II to the present. Three chapters cover organizations in Europe, the Middle East, and other areas, including Canada, Asia, South America, and Russia. The second title discusses covert, rescue, or direct-action operations of military, other federal, and local law-enforcement groups, including the Army's Delta Force, the Navy SEALS, the CIA, the FBI, the Department of Homeland Security, SWAT teams, and so on. In both books, specific operations are discussed with good detail. Each volume is prefaced by a "Who's Who" identifying organizations and terms; a time line and a list of Web sites provide more recent news - mostly represented by news agencies and government databases. Black-and-white photographs of terrorist events and training maneuvers are interspersed throughout. Well-written, useful resources for reports and for readers interested in military and paramilitary topics. - Cynthia M. Sturgis, Ledding Library, Milwaukie, OR
