Anyone interested in a very hard-swinging, high-energy modern big band should check out this album by George Gruntz. All the musicians are virtuoso players, and he's a virtuoso writer. Don't let this be your only experience of the Gruntz band--he's got a lot of other cds out, and they're all in the same vein--beautiful harmonic sense, great performances, innovative jazz thinking without losing the jazz essence--swing and enthusiam.
