Keeps my Global knives fiendishly sharp,
By A Customer
This review is from: Global G-38 - 10 inch, 26cm Diamond Sharpening Steel (Kitchen)
This is a steel made expressly for Global's Cremova 18 and Molybdenum/Vanadium stainless steel blades which is harder than the average German stainless steel. Together with the Shikansen sharpener, it keeps my knives as sharp as the day I bought them with minimal effort. It's expensive, but a good investment.

Keeps my Global Knives sharp,

This works much better than a normal steel on my Global knives. Can't think of anything wrong with the diamond steel. Sure it isn't inexpensive, but I've got some diamond tool sharpeners for the shop and they aren't cheap either. At some point, the diamond steel won't be sufficient to bring back a good edge. At this point I bring out the Yoshikin MinoSharp Water Knife Sharpener to reform the edge and follow this up with a couple of strokes on the diamond steel. Not factory sharp, but certainly sharper than when I started. :-)

I have to admit that I initially grimaced at the idea of spending over $100 for a knife sharpener. But after splurging on several Global knives I didn't want to skimp on the sharpener. Two or three swipes on the diamond sharpening steel and the knife is as sharp as a razor. Yes, even Global knives will loose a little edge with normal use. This is a must have for keeping them honed.

You won't want this scratching your Global knife after using a waterstone,
This review is from: Global G-38 - 10 inch, 26cm Diamond Sharpening Steel (Kitchen)
I bought this product based on the other customer recommendations. It really is an amazing steel, but if you already have a very fine Japanese waterstone (mine is 6000 grit) that gives your Global knives a mirror-like razor-blade edge (MUCH sharper than they come from the factory), you're not going to like the way the diamonds on this steel scratch that finish. Also, you lose some sharpness. After using a 6000-grit waterstone I can literally and easily shave with my Global knives, but not so after "honing" them afterwards with this sharpening steel.Otherwise, it works wonders on my other non-Global knives...

A must for Global knife lovers,

I'll be the first one to admit that this is a LOT to pay for a knife sharpener. That being said, I wouldn't buy anything else. It does such an amazing job sharpening my Global knives, as well as others. Just a couple strokes, and my knives are like new again. If you care enough about knives to buy a Global in the first place, you shouldn't hesitate when it comes to buying this. The main selling point for me was that this sharpener works on serrated knives too. The sharpener isn't round like most; it's thin, so it can sharpen the individual teeth of a serrated knife. It's a fabulous product, and it looks darn good too. Love it!

Spend the extra $$ on this diamond version of their steel, it is truly worth it. It keeps my Global knives in excellent daily condition.

I have been on a search for a hone that does what I need it to do, a couple slides down this global diamond steel and my knives begin to thank me. Highly recommend, it was worth the investment.

Serious Honer,

I purchased this honer for my husband. I recently purchsed for him a 7 piece Global knife set & wanted to protect my investment!! This honer is the best he has ever used. The diamond edge really brings the tiny nicks back in line. He is not a chef, but a serious foodie/home cook. He now uses the honer as needed and it keeps the sharpness at its best. So far everything Global has proven to be the best quality and a good investment (and when you accidently cut yourself with one of their knives, as I did the other day, the cut is clean & heals quickly).
