4.0 out of 5 stars Superb OCR but Registration Hassles
This software seems brilliant - does a very accurate job of scanning and decoding. It could be improved by allowing for multiple page scans (without having to set a timer for page insert)It will defintely save you time. IT does not appear to have an page storage/filing system like some ocr programs but 5 Stars for its scanning and decoding.

The good: works like it is supposed too! scans to pdf image over text which is allowing me to shift towards a paperless workspace.

The bad: you need to request an CD key over the internet for every time you have to reinstall - hard disk crash - or reinstall because the default installation is incomplete - or re install for a second or third language - install for a second computer at home.

The ugly: Not only will they not send me a CD key - they won't even answer my emails! - The link in the customer service section for support in North America is dead - check it yourself - 404 - and the first email is "We are sorry to hear that you are having problems with our software - please send us your machine ID." - So you send them the information and you don't get a reply. Now I have been ripped for 100$!

Fool me once shame on you, fool me twice shame on me.

Registration becomes a problem if you have to reinstall the software several times (I redo my computer frequently), it is not smart enough to know it is the same machine and forces you to contact technical support. MS Office will recognise its the same machine so its not a hassle.

If you are interested in document storage and filing on the computer then other ocr might be a better choice. If you want ACCURATE page scanning for modification and changes I would MOST HIGHLY recommend this software.

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing software, January 20, 2007
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Global Marketing Partners Readiris Pro 11 [Old Version] (CD-ROM)
I have been using Readiris 11 for about two and a half months on a project I work on about 4 to 6 hours a day. The project is to put a book I wrote about 25 years ago that was typewritten but never published onto a CD as a course. So it involves using Readiris to read the pages into Word where I edit the work. The Readiris wizard (without tinkering which was a disaster) and pages with dark ink work best. If the pages are light because of typewriter ribbon age, I must first darken them in Photoshop and then print them out for Readiris. I found that Readiris does a wonderful job and is worth every penny.

1.0 out of 5 stars Horrible Customer Support, July 22, 2008
By
This review is from: Global Marketing Partners Readiris Pro 11 [Old Version] (CD-ROM)
Similar experience to many others here. Despite paying a lot of money for a physical product (not a download), including a unique serial number, every reinstall requires a new "registration number." US customer support always rolls into voicemail, and calls are never returned. I finally chose the menu choice for their server products and got a real person. He stayed on the phone until I was connected to John P. in customer support. He gave me the number I needed within 15 seconds. When I asked why calls were not returned, he said there were 5 technical support people and they had three promotions running. Not much I can do now, except vote with my wallet in the future.

I had to look for the setup.exe file since it would not come up automatically. text recognition kept crashing which was really frustrating because it would not save anything. Crashed about five times then I uninstalled it and returned it after wasting a weekend trying to give the software a chance.

1.0 out of 5 stars ReadIris Pro 11 crashes, December 27, 2007
This review is from: Global Marketing Partners Readiris Pro 11 [Old Version] (CD-ROM)
How am I supposed to use a product that crashes every time on Windows XP? I am using ReadIris Pro 11, Build 4795, Copyright 1989-2006, that came with my HP LaserJet 3050. Nowhere can I find any sort of patch or update. And the manufacturer does not respond to my requests for help. My advice: stay away.

the software vendor pretends to offer a demo/trial version of software, but when trying to download it keeps providing only a series of screenshots. so customer can't try it.
turned out very poor software.
OCR quality is very low.
The best OCR quality i've seen was on the Canon's CanoScan software that comes with their scanners.

5.0 out of 5 stars Comparative Results, March 27, 2010

Recently I needed to convert a magazine article to Microsoft Word. I used 4 programs, Adobe 9, OmniPage 17, PaperPort 12, and Read I.R.I.S. Pro 12. Read I.R.I.S. did the most accurate conversion. Adobe 9 did a good job converting to PDF but the MS Word rendering was not a good as Read I.R.I.S. When converting other material I test with these four programs and the best performer is not always the same. It depends upon the nature and the quality of the source.

I e-mailed Iris to get help and have not heard back from them. When the scaned copy goes to word I can't read or edit it. I have Iris 7, Iris 9, now Iris 11 and I had trouble with them all. (Help) Thank you, Frank

5.0 out of 5 stars Great OCR software, August 4, 2008
This review is from: Global Marketing Partners Readiris Pro 11 [Old Version] (CD-ROM)
After reading several reviews on this product, I was hesitant because there was such mixed reviews. But after getting it and using the software, I am very pleased with my purchase. I had some trouble installing the software, but was able to get help from customer service and they were able to walk me through the process. After that, I was up and running. What I was looking for was OCR software that was accurate and fast, and that is what I got. The software does what it says its gonna do, and to me that is what is important in a product. I would recommend this product to my friends.
