My psycho hairless cat and dimitted Boston were running around the house, I got up to get something from another room, leaving my pop sitting on the desk. Kitty ran onto the desk as Boston jumped at him, not sure who knocked over the pop, but the keyboard was swimming under 24 ounces of sweet, sticky Coke. I had one previous keyboard ruined after some water had gotten in it. This one survived, after a good cleaning with 409, it was not sticky. It has also, so far, survived a big bird gnawing on it, not that I would recommend that, but she has lost many a key in the past.

2 complaints, and reason for 4 stars. As other reviewers have also said, the caps lock key is easy to hit without knowing you have done so. It does have an odd feel that takes a bit to get used to. My initial intro to this keyboard was at the office, and it was an odd feel. But after several uses I wanted one.

Overall I am extremely pleased and would recommend this keyboard. Many thanks to my dear and wonderful friend Andy for getting me this for my birthday!!!

4.0 out of 5 stars If you drink coffee at the computer- Buy this keyboard., October 8, 2002

This review is from: Global Marketing Partners Virtually Indestructible Keyboard Mac/95/98/w2k/wme/nt Grand (Personal Computers)
Update- Have had it for 1 year, I downgraded this to 4 stars for 3 reasons.

~1. The ink labels on the letters are completely gone, which is frustrating, when looking for a key I don't know by touch (like semi-colon, or plus sign)

~2. It definitely takes a while to train your fingers to the feel of the keyboard... a week of working at home was how long it took me, and I usually can type with some good speed.
This means that guest users will probably have quite an annoying time trying to do any computer activity that involves typing. My nieces and nephews use it, and they do complain that it "feels' wrong.

3. The caps lock key is too close to the "A", and I constantly have unwANTed cAPITAl letters.

****BUT- the kids have spilled drinks onto it dozens of times, and it still works!

...........~ ~ ~ ~ * * * * ~ ~ ~ ~
****original 5 star review:

~ ~ When I was shopping for a new keyboard, I decided to look around, instead of just purchasing the most inexpensive one.- - - - I had ruined my last keyboard by a combination of dust, potato chip crumbs, and one of the kids spilling a drink into it

~ ~When I saw the "Indestructible Keyboard", I was skeptical, but it certainly looked waterproof. So, I bought it.

~ ~I am so thankful I did. I spilled my coffee on the keyboard the first day! No problem at all. : - ) ! Everything wiped clean, and I could even clean it with mild dish soap. No more Compressed air canisters to freeze my hands!

~ ~The only drawback is that the "feel" of the keyboard will be different, and you have to practice a little. If you were a two-fingered typist, you'd probably find it wonderful.- - - - - However, the keyboard is flat, and there is protective flexible plastic covering that covers the whole unit, including the keys. If you're an experienced typist, it does take some time to get used to the "feel" of the keys. I made plenty of mistakes when starting, but now that I'm used to it, it's fine.

~ ~The only slightly annoying feature is that I seem to hit the "caps lock" key by mistake quite often (Its positioned to the left of the "a" key.)
Addendum: now that I've had it longer, I notice the letters on the keys are wearing off. So far, touching them up with a permanent magic marker (fine tip) works great. Be prepared and have a marker ready, if youre going to clean the keyboar with a spray clearner like "Windex", which works great.

~ ~Overall- I think this keyboard is a gift from the Gods. It's lasted 3 months so far, and is still intact and easy to clean. I love it.

~ ~For anyone who has ever even come close to spilling coffee into the keyboard.... this is a definite 5***** star buy!

I have owned two of these so far and have loved their portability, waterproof design, and soft silent feel. Plus typing on a sheet of rubber, for me, is high geek factor.

There are, however, a few problems with it that I have...

For one, it likes to slide around a lot. Never had to chase other keyboards like this one.

Secondly, my first one died due to dry rot on a key I never USED. (the 4 on the keypad)

Third, my current has a bug in the Power button - in linux, it behaves but in Windows, randomly it will shut me on down like it's no big deal. I don't even have to be at the keyboard for it to do it either and, yes, I tried it on other machines to verify... the problem travelled with it.

Fourth issue is the 'dead' keys next to the space bar, on either side, and those three little nipple buttons above the keypad. Why bother putting them there when you can either expand the space bar a bit (4 space buttons would be fine by me, allowing it to be rolled up still) or just leave the space blank? Can't count the long documents I've written where whole clumps of words would be joined at the hip because I accidentally hit the blank keys instead of space.

I do not like this keyboard. The idea of spill proof is nice BUT.. its not a great keyboard. I dont expect much for this price but it hurts my fingers to type on it. Have to keep pressing the buttons and it throws me off cause i type average speed and i have to go back and retype everything because my text ends up like this "Helo hw ae yo?" It just is a pain.. Im returning it today -_-

As someone who snacks while they work, I was thrilled when I found this easy-to-clean keyboard. Sadly, my excitement soon turned to aggravation.

The Virtually Indestructible Keyboard is fairly difficult to get accustomed to. When I first got it, I felt like I was learning to type all over again. The keys require much more pressure than a traditional keyboard (at times, you have to hit a key three or four times before it heeds the command). So unless your hands and wrists are virtually indestructible, you're almost guaranteed carpal tunnel. It's so much more difficult to type using this keyboard that my typing speed is probably 25% or 30% less than with a standard keyboard.

Secondly, the inked figures on the keys wear away very quickly. For me, the vowels were gone after only two weeks. A few weeks later, half of the letter keys were blank.

Don't waste your money. Get one of those little keyboard vacuums instead.

5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome keyboard, January 28, 2008
This review is from: Global Marketing Partners Virtually Indestructible Keyboard Mac/95/98/w2k/wme/nt Grand (Personal Computers)
I love this - it really didn't take much to get used to it honestly. I like how soft the keys are and how quiet they are. I have no issue with the caps lock key and honestly it is just as close to the "A" key as my other standard keyboard. I have also no issues with the space bars or having to press harder than normal - I do it all the same as I have before on a standard keyboard. Such a nice idea - I now want the mouse they also offer. It is nice because you can sanitize it and would be awesome in hospitals. Overall I highly recommend it!

5.0 out of 5 stars Works great for me with no learning curve..., August 21, 2007
This review is from: Global Marketing Partners Virtually Indestructible Keyboard Mac/95/98/w2k/wme/nt Grand (Personal Computers)
This is a nice, quiet keyboard and is comfortable to use. With the keyboard so flat, the desk it sits on is your handrest. I enjoy the feel when I type. I had no initial learning curve when typing. I have read reviews on this product and was expecting awkward moments with the keyboard. Not the case for me. Enjoyed it the first moments typing. What's nice for me about this keyboard is that I can roll it up and pack it in my computer bag. In my opinion, it's easier to type with and it saves the wear and tear of using the laptop keyboard. The added bonus is the very affordable price.

1.0 out of 5 stars Great idea, but not for all PCs, July 27, 2003

I bought one at a local branch of a national electronics store. I had difficulty typing at any great speed. In addition, my dial-up internet connection was MUCH slower. Slower that is, until I started getting 'dl' errors in my browser (Internet Explorer). Evenually, I got a blue screen of death with a message indicating 'Press enter to return' or 'Ctrl-alt-delete' and lose all work. Neither worked. I had to hard-shut down my machine. I am using a Gateway 800 MHz Pentium III. Switched back to my old keyboard and problems went away. In other words, STAY AWAY.... at least for internet use. It worked OK for MS WORD.

It's not going to stay around the house long enough to see if the letters wear off the keys. Please see other reviews for this product.
