5.0 out of 5 stars If you like Skinny Puppy, give this guy a try., May 19, 2005
This review is from: Global Speaker Fisting (Audio CD)
I saw Otto Von Schirach open for Skinny Puppy early 2005, and all I can say is it was simply amazing. By far the most entertaining performance I have ever witnessed at a concert. In fact, although Skinny Puppy is my favorite band and I have seen them perform several times since their reunion, I would have to say I even enjoyed Otto's performance a little more. His act and music reeks of sick humor, and you can't help but love his quirkiness. The only way I could even describe him his Devo meet's the antichrist. I was digging the whole show from the very start, but when he threw out a chopped up distorted cover of Right Said Fred's "I'm Too Sexy" (which I hope he'll release on CD soon), sporting fake breasts that he groped & fondled as he ran around the stage, I was sold. Immediately after his performance I ran upstairs to buy the last copy of his most recent cd, "Global Speaker Fisting." So on to the cd. First, it needs to be said that if you're an avid 'pop' listener and you are not willing to try something new, then this isn't for you. In fact, it's probably not for alot of people, may just be a little too much music for the weak of heart. The music is very choppy, spontanious and experimental. But if you like Industrial/experimental electronica, then you might wanna give this a try. When I first gave this cd a listen, I only liked a few of the tracks, in particular the ones I saw him perform= "G4 Scramblin'", "Goat Sperm" and "Sangre del Dedo Intelecto" (one of my personal favorites), but after repeated listens I began to love the whole cd and it's one of the top played albums I own. Although I would have to admit, if you want the full Otto Von Schirach experience, see him live, but if you just can't get enough of him like me, get all his albums starting with this one. This style of music is hard to explain unless you're really into the scene, so in an attempt to try to compare it to something more mainstream, think Aphex Twin ("Come To Daddy" comes to mind) completely plastered and on even more drugs. If you're already somewhat into the Industrial/Experimental scene, and like Skinny Puppy, then you should know this guy toured with them 2004/2005 and also helped out with their latest album "The Greater Wrong of the Right." In a recent interview with Nivek Ogre, singer of Skinny Puppy, he also stated that they would be working with Otto alot more on the next album to give it the spontaniety that Puppy was always well known for. Now, for Skinny Puppy to bring in new blood like Otto, whom few people in the scene probably even heard of until recently, tell's you something right there. So all you 'rivet heads' out there better grab this cd, or your collection is nullified.
