Global Traveler Translator for 20 LANGUAGES:English, Polish, German, Czech

This translator will be a good help to you if you are a traveler of foreign countries. All the basic phrases for traveling are present. Ease of use is quite simple and it isn't very loud. The size is good for putting in your purse or cargo pant pocket.

This isn't such a good translator if you are trying to delve deeper into a language. I'd recommend much more advanced translators for language learning.

I purchased this translator mainly for my travels in Asia. I had used a "Kim tu dien" for the past couple of years when traveling to Vietnam. Unfortunately it was stoeln on my last trip and I needed a replacement. The newer models of the "Kim tu dien" are quite expensive. I came arcoss this one while searching.

I am impressd with the use of tone marks in the Vietnamese translations, and also very impressed with the inclusion of both pinyin and characters in the Mandarin translations. This makes it possible for me to show the written translations and make an attempt at pronouncing it myself. I tries it with my Chinese friends at a local buffet and they could read the characters very easily. The other languages, Indonesian is useful for my purposes, Korean and Japanese may come in handy some day also. The Eurpoean languages are a plus. If I can hang onto it long enough (I seem to have a way of losing these things regularly) it will come in handy when I finally make it to Europe.

The downsides are a somewhat limited vocabulary, compared to the Kim tu Dien I was using. This has about 20,000 unique words where the Kim tu Dien had around 500,000. Not a problem really, you should be able to find some way to get your point across. The other small downside was the way the words are arranged and displayed. Perhaps I just need to learn to use it better, but on my old translator I could scroll through the words, looking until I found the correct tonal marks in Vietnamese to fit the word being presented to me. It makes the translations from the foreign language to English a little harder, especially in the Asian tonal ones. It is not a fatal flaw though, I feel I can cope.

Overall, for the price, it is an outstanding unit and well worth the money. Hopefully I can carry it with me for many years. If you want to travel widely, this
should serve you well.

I have needed a translator like this for several months but have found them to be too expensive for the features offered. This one does it all for me and at a killer price

This product worked short term. After a few minutes of use the device would lock up and you would have to stick a small wire in the back to reset the device. This would not be a problem, except that the information that had been input, such as currency exchange rates, would be lost and have to be input again. This was very frustrating and time consuming. I did not get much use out of the device due to this problem.

I purchased this item to assist my wife in taking her drivers license exam. I had hoped she could enter the questions in English and translate them into Czech. This device will only let you enter words for a single word translation. It does translate common phrases but that was of no help. She did finally pass the exam but with no help from the translator. We did keep it and it may come in handy someday. I would not have purchased it if the seller would have been more specific as to what it would do.

This might be ok for traveling, but my German exchange student got it to help with school. Most of the words he needed help with were not even available he also found common words were not able to translate. If you are looking for something for a high school student look for something else, as this will not be much help.

The Global Traveler is of limited use for foreign translations. It is not capable of translating customized phrases, no matter how short or simple, unless it happens to be preprogrammed into its limited phrase dictionary. It is very helpful for currency or metric conversions, but for those uses a simpler converter would be more appropriate. Also, there is no "voice" to pronounce foreign words, so good luck once you bring up a word in a non-romance language.

This product was not what I wanted would not service my needs and I returned it with not problem thanks Amazon
