3.0 out of 5 stars Frustrating
I had such high hopes for this release. I like Nick Warren. I like the Way Out West stuff. I liked his Amsterdam GU set, the others had their moments ... so I really hoped this would be his "Sasha in Ibiza" moment.

Well ... It seems like this set is all build-up and no release. There are tracks that just about get you there and just when you think there is...

Nick Warren has always been hit and miss with me. His last Global Underground mix album Paris was thoroughly uninteresting, but the Reykjavik release before that was excellent, maybe even his best. I would say that Lima falls just below Reykjavik, but well above Paris. It's minimalist nature with just the right amount of harmonies and noises remains steady throughout both CD's. It's never boring and everything is mixed together extremely well. If you like Nick Warren this album should not disappoint.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Twin of the Amsterdam Set!!, November 16, 2008

I was not focused on picking up this thing until Christmas until Global Underground offered me a deal. I didn't expect to listen to it in the first place, however, very impressed! Less ambience than Paris and a lot more down to Earth progressive house happening. Nick has not been this progressive since his releases of Brazil and Amsterdam. The first CD has a little bit of that windy sound in it with its rythme and stays consistent and has a solid tempo having instrumentation that grabs you into the disc that keeps the progressive house adventure going with your mind at ease. What keeps the mind at ease is the sound of the music aside from just the beat. The progressive sound.

Not good enough, try the 2nd disc. Mostly this reminds me of when Nick did Global Underground Amterdam because he starts off where he left off from the first disc and takes off toward the end go give you energy to want to dance to it. He has a little bit of John Digweed like sound, but it is the groove and beat that bring life to Lima. You can watch the Global Underground series weekdays with Nick Warren!!

5.0 out of 5 stars outstanding!, June 2, 2010

Nick Warren does it again. This might be his best yet. Nick strays away from making one disc a chill out comp and the other a dance comp. Both discs are riddled with gems from another universe that only Nick Warren travels to snatch up the best tunes i've heard in a long time.

I don't know why I waited so long to pick this album up, but I'm SOOOO glad I finally did. I've been a huge fan of Nick since his first GU release - Prague. My least fav of his are Amsterdam and Brazil, but they're still good. His last three releases have been SOLID and this one is the f*#king best yet! CD 1 has a nice spacey/islandy/ melodic intro and glides into a groovy space hop....it builds with a nice mix of chill funky bass, old school vocals, spacey breaky goodness and intergalactic orchestral horns, then it gets REALLY good....no kidding, disc 1 is outta this world and so is disc 2. If you like deep, funky, spacey, intelligent, beautiful, groovy progressive dance music, this is it. As always, nick serves a world class entree with no cheese. delicious.

5.0 out of 5 stars Epic Warren, January 9, 2009
This review is from: Global Underground: Lima (Audio CD)
After meandering around the musical spectrum for his last few comps, Warren comes out with this breathtaking progressive mix. It's not flashy or punctuated by anchor songs. It's just great house music from start to finish. Highly recommended for serious electronic music fans.

There are tracks that just about get you there and just when you think there is gonna be some glorious bassline breakdown and shimmering silver throw-your-hands-up-in-the-air moment it goes nowhere but into another tease track that sets the stage for another moment when you think all hell's gonna break loose and ... get ready ... it's just around the corner ..... another build-up kind of track.

The beat is right. The bass is right. The trippy electronic flourishes are right. Oh man, it is so close, so close .... but it never really arrives.

Frustrating!

4.0 out of 5 stars Not bad,but not the best, November 12, 2008
This review is from: Global Underground: Lima (Audio CD)
It's not a bad compilation. It's missing some vocal tracks badly,as there is just one that stands out.I like the minimal sound he chose for this set,a bit more melodic, not so noisy. Both CD's are equal to me except CD2 seems more epic. It's not something I'd use first at a party, but it ranks up there.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best GU so far, November 4, 2008
Some say Rekjavyk was the best GU from Nick, but this one is just another level. I had a great time at the party here in Lima and hearing the album just makes it sound a bit different.
Progressive at its best with Mr Warren.
