Product Description

Danny Tenaglia Global Underground 017 UK 2-CD album set

Amazon.com

Tenaglia, the DJ's DJ, has always smashed down dance music's divisions by mixing whatever he pleases without losing a smidgeon of musical impact. So it's no surprise that Global Underground: London, a double CD mixed live in London isn't a fusty, dusty artifact full of novelty tracks. Forever passionate about the music as well as his mixing, Tenaglia's choices are inspired by what really works on the dance floor. Peace's Divison's "Tribal Funk" is wonderfully voracious, and ATFC's "In and Out of My Life" sits just on the right side of screaming-diva house. By concentrating on subbed-out electro house in all its sweeping orchestral glory, London rocks and soothes in equal measure. There are plenty of blueprints and uplifting twists, such as Minimal Funk IV's epic "Definition of House" and Vegas Soul's teasingly groove-oriented "Junk Funk," but that's not all. Tenaglia has split the CDs so each one leans toward either house or trance, each never to the detriment of the other. So for the most part, the second CD is a sexy, blissfully escapist soundtrack, and the first is super-funky house above all else. If you own other Tenaglia compilations, then you already know what his mixes sound like--taut bass lines, musical beats with a soulful edge, and plenty of extended, glorious breakdowns. If you don't, then this anthemic and occasionally ethereal mix will be both banging and astonishing. --Maxine Kabuubi

Can't go wrong with this one!

CD2 is excellent, picking up on the tribal groove of the first CD, and becoming seriously hipnotic and deep by its end.

Global Underground London is an excellent double cd set that takes you on a tribal house journey into the underground.

Danny Tenaglia finally gets it right and delivers a 5 star gem. Global Underground London is an excellent double cd set that takes you on a tribal house journey into the underground. You can't really compare these sets with the ones from Athens since they're a totally different feel and brand of house music. London is strictly deep underground house with a heavy tribal influence unlike the trance/house sound of Athens. This is wonderfully mixed with an excellent music selection. The beats are pumpin and the bass is deep. There are no weaknesses in these sets and this is without question Tenaglia's finest work yet.
CD 1 clocks in at over 71 minutes and is excellent expression of deep tribal house music. There are too many choice titles to list but the numbers are 3, 4, 5, 8, 9, 10, and 11. This is good stuff and I recommend it to any tribal house heads. CD1 rates 5 stars.
CD 2 clocks in at over 72 minutes and is composed of tribal, underground and even some trance house. The mixing is quality and the music selection is diverse but excellent. The tempo of this set is a little slower than cd 1 but still comes off well. Cuts of choice are "Magical Digital Drum", "Basic", "Phoenix", "Burning", and "Ways of Love." CD2 rates 4.75 stars.
This is an excellent cd for anyone interested in house music. You have variety, excellent mixing and beats that are deep and forceful. You shouldn't have any problem dancing to these sets. Whether you're starting out in house music or a veteran, you'll want to add this to your collection.

Let's get it straight, there are DJs and there is Danny Tenaglia. Danny will get John, Sasha, Dave, Paul, Nick and Darren on the dance floor any time. I feel this is one of his best compilations, although Tenaglia is best enjoyed when hearing him spin live. (anybody out there remembers the legendary 8-hour Miami set..........)
Disc 1 is very original, it the first two tracks are tribal, african, jazzy type "o" house, after that you will hear pure house, building up to a progressive climax.
Disc 2 is a beautiful remix which consists out of progressive & deep house, you will also hear some trance-like tracks, but it never goes over the edge.
Overall this is a deep, dark, sexy, sleazy, intense compilation with great beats and even more soul. Tenaglia uses only the best parts of each track and he remixes them, creating a unique vibe. He definately goes the extra mile. The only thing better is experiencing Tenaglia live! This is absolutely a must have. If you do not get this, then you do not understand house. (and as you know, not everyone understands house music, it's a soul thing......)

You will find many different styles in this set: House, Tribal Beats, Trance, Vocal (CD1 tends more towards House and CD2 - my favorite- towards trance). But the diversity of styles, Danny's mixing and tracks' order creates a nearly perfect set, fluid, homogeneous and different. What mostly amazed me is that I found it very familiar and at the same time strange, very conventional and at the same time futuristic (especially CD2). If you are searching for the very high quality we used to find in Sasha's "San Francisco", Digweed's "Sidney" or Nick Warren "Budapest" don't hesitate to buy this one. CD2 alone is worth getting the set.

Danny Tenaglia does it again with this mixCD brought to us by the people at Global Underground/Boxed. It's, well, it's good stuff. Like Athens, Tenaglia is essentially bringing much more of a tribal/deep house sound to a series dominated by trance, but it's oh-so-very appropriate. After all, if it's all about the music, well it'll be tough to find better music than this.
Disc one works the tribal/deep house sound much more so than the second disc. Heavy on the percussion, this disc works a vibe that brings to mind drum circles under open stars just as much as it does circles of dancers under strobe lights. Overall, there's this ethereal yet sinister quality that gets built up over the course of the CD. Musically, it experiences its first (mind you, FIRST) peak with Onephatdeeva's "In and Out of My Life" --- but thematically, the mix takes it's first sharp upward turn at Coco Da Silva's "Suadade" with the first appearance of the "enchantment" sample.
Disc two continues the deep/tribal sound, but also has more trancey elements to it. The percussive elements riding over top of the underlying cadence of the kickdrum never quite cease, but the fade a bit as the music becomes a little less percussive and a little more melodic. Fortunately, Tenaglia's signature sound is maintained throughout -- that dark, sinister, yet extremely sexy undercurrent. Yes. Oh, yes.
So, do yourself a favor and pick this up. Then, do yourself the favor of reading the liner notes. Most excellent.

After buying tons of CDs trying to find one that matches this set I think I may have to give up. Although I love Disc 1, the true gem in this set is Disc 2. I have listened to this hundreds and hundreds of times and to this day I love it as much as I heard it the first time. From the beginning, Microworld's Signals is a simple, repetitive loop that lasts for 10 minutes, but for some reason it hooks you and you find your head bobbing and fingers tapping. It really sets the tone for the whole CD, whose highlights include Elegia's "Basic," Vegas Soul's "Junk Funk" and Art of Trance's "Monsoon." However, tbe single best track on this album is the unbelievable remix of Schiller's "Ruhe." A similar mix can be found on the 2nd CD of Sasha and Digweed's Communicate, but this version is the one and only. Unbelievably deep bass, great drums and dark, eerie german vocals. A true masterpiece. The only drawback to this set is the mastering, as mentioned by a previous reviewer. The volume is set way too low and turning it up only starts to distort the bass. Unfortunate, but Tenaglia's mix itself is, in my opinion, the greatest ever.
