Large-scale disaster and personal profit, October 26, 2007
This review is from: The Global War for Oil (Hardcover)
Many people are now becoming interested in the ramifications of "peak oil" and there are a number of good books on the topic. Rather than write a full-length review of this particular book, I merely want to inform potential purchasers of DiGeorgia's book that it contains a chapter titled "How to Profit From the Global Oil War." This is indicative of this author's approach, which is also typical of some of the investment-oriented web sites that examine the nature of our energy predicaments.
For those looking for books containing constructive ideas on how to respond to the challenges of peak oil and resource wars, at the community, local, national, and international levels, I recommend any recent books by Richard Heinberg, Julian Darley, and Michael Klare, just to name a few. My own feeling is that we should do everything in our power to prevent the looming chaos, or at least to minimize its effects, rather than seeking to use it for personal gain.

The Global War for Oil - book review, January 30, 2006
This review is from: The Global War for Oil (Hardcover)
I found the book extremely educational and an easy read, too. You need not be an investor to enjoy this book. Most of the text covers the history of oil, its many applications, the wars that have been fought over it, and predictions about the coming oil shortages. I would say that, in the ~~ 1.5 years since publication, the author's predictions have been pretty accurate.
The final chapter of the book covers DiGeorgia's investment recommendations, and it comes as such a change in style that it could almost be another book. If I may summarize it in one sentence, "buy oil stocks." I'm not being cynical here; he is probably right about that, too.
One question still left on my mind pertains to the photo of the author on the book jacket. Why did the publisher use a high-school age photo of an author who must be in his 40's by now?
