I just got the book so I'm not finished reading it yet but I find it very scary. The text is so thorough and extensive (it is well footnoted) that it can be tedious to read but make the effort, no matter what you personally think about civilian ownership of any sort of firearms.
The details of UN actions and methods can make even a gun hater wonder if we still need to be in the UN. Continuous patterns of abuse and non-action ( much of that even reported in the mainstream media), policies set up by member states that have no love for any American make this a very scary book.
The United Nations used to be a great thing, it's still a great idea, but the mess we've got now no one who loves freedom needs it. The kind of people running that show?, once they get the guns (if they do) the press and the internet will come soon after.

5.0 out of 5 stars Educate yourself on the reality of the UN!, August 4, 2006
This review is from: The Global War on Your Guns: Inside the UN Plan To Destroy the Bill of Rights (Hardcover)
This book should be absolutely essential reading for everyone in America (or anywhere, for that matter)--it's not just about guns (though it does eloquently and soundly make the case for the right to bear arms), but it also chronicles story after story after story of U.N. corruption and waste, direct U.N. support of terrorists, U.N. exacerbation of genocides, U.N. attempts at removal of liberty and human rights everywhere, the "rape culture" of their so-called peacekeepers, their legitimizing of the most oppressive regimes...I could go on and on and on. In short, it sums up why the U.N. isn't good at anything but spreading misery and pain, and, consequently, why we shouldn't allow them anywhere near our Second Amendment (or anywhere near the US in any way, shape, or form in my opinion).

Some will say that Mr. LaPierre and those like him are only being alarmist in saying that the UN could threaten our right to bear arms in the USA anytime soon. However, Mr. LaPierre gives all the evidence needed as to why it's never too soon to be concerned about what the UN is trying to do and to have an early warning, especially because of what the UN has, in fact, already done in countries all over the world where the people are far, far worse off because of UN interference. Every person in a free country should read this book and then lobby their elected representatives to get their country out of the UN as soon as possible. Far, far too few people have any idea what a horrible and insidious organization the UN is, and Wayne LaPierre throws a lot of desperately needed light on the subject.

5.0 out of 5 stars It's not only about guns it's about the sovereignty of the United States, August 5, 2006
This review is from: The Global War on Your Guns: Inside the UN Plan To Destroy the Bill of Rights (Hardcover)
The Global war on your guns is a well researched and factual account of the efforts of The United Nations attempt at taking over our nation. This is not some alarmist's half-cocked radical viewpoint, but rather a well researched report on the record of the U.N. and how they have become a powerful organization bent on regulating the entire world under their iron hand. Mr. LaPierre points out how the U.N. has failed in it's peace keeping efforts in all of the nations where they have gained control. Worse than that the U.N. "peace keepers" have not been all that peaceful. In fact in many cases they have been more violent and controlling than any of the governments that they have assumed control from.

LaPierre names names and gives quotes along with the violent and underhanded history of the U.N.'s activities worldwide. This is a book that should be read by every American who believes in our constitution and the bill of rights.

Mr. LaPierre is the executive vice president of the N.R.A., but the information in this book does not pertain to what many have seen as a special interest group. He goes into great detail in explaining how every tyranical dictatorship in recent history has used firearms confiscation as the first step in gaining control of the free people in the nations that they have seized control of.

No! This book is not simply about gun control, but rather about how gun control could be the first step in undermining the bill of rights and destroying the sovereignty of our great nation. Every patriotic American who believes that we still live in the land of the free and the home of the brave should read this one.

5.0 out of 5 stars Alarmist? No, just ahead of his time., June 13, 2007
By
This review is from: The Global War on Your Guns: Inside the UN Plan To Destroy the Bill of Rights (Hardcover)
People have often referred to the NRA as alarmist. This is false. As noted by earlier authors, LaPierre needs to spend more time talking about the gun grabbers within our own midst, that of the United States government. Katrina showed to the nation that criminals will walk around looting whenever they get the chance, hence that was a perfect environment for arming oneself for self-defense. The government went in their and grabbed the guns from honest, law-abiding American citizens. Make no mistake, the U.N. wants to grab your guns also, but LaPierre needs to write a follow-up book on the United State entities that are trying to shred the 2nd Amendment in your face.

This is one of many books that points out just how corrupt the U.N really is. This book not only plainly points out the U.N's disregard for liberty and human rights, but also how it perpetuates the destruction of those rights. If history (and current events) has taught us anything it is that the fasted way to control a people is to take away there ability to defend themselves. Very well written and footnoted.

5.0 out of 5 stars FREEDOM is EVERYTHING!, June 5, 2009
This review is from: The Global War on Your Guns: Inside the UN Plan To Destroy the Bill of Rights (Hardcover)
Most self-proclaimed "liberals" or leftists, will loudly assert THEIR opinion that "the police are racists, and the military are fascists".

Ask them their opinion on personal ownership of firearms:

Most self-proclaimed "liberals" or leftists are very thoroughly programmed to tell you that "they believe only the police and the military should have weapons", specifically, firearms.

Now, isn't that a bit hypocritical and inconsistant? I thought that being a "liberal" meant believing in PERSONAL LIBERTY. How can you have LIBERTY, if you surrender all means of defending it, to a government?

"Political power grows from the barrel of a gun."
Mao Tze Tung

Mao would know, he wielded a lot of political power, didn't he? The average Chinese citizen was not permitted to own a gun, but Mao's government kept a monopoloy on that particular aspect of power. Mao's "policies" eliminated about 60 million Chinese people, by some estimates. Even more were rounded up and placed in some remote facilities with plenty of barbed-wire, guard-towers, and walls, for many, many years.

If the police and military are so "inherantly racist and/or fascist" ...why would anyone who values LIBERTY, give such institutions the massive and exclusive power of being armed? A RATIONAL person can see the blatant inconsistencies here.

In America, the police and military are NOT racist/fascist entities, as so many of our "liberal" neighbors desperately want to believe. The American military and law-enforcement personnel are just citizens, as subject to the rule of law as you are.
However, in most of the worlds "nations", the police and military most definitely ARE fascistic organizations.

America is almost unique in the world as a nation where the government is subject to the WILL OF THE PEOPLE. In most of the world's nations, the citizens are subject to the whim of their governments (this is true even in "democratic" Europe). Most people in "democratic" Europe are NOT ALLOWED to possess arms of any type, ...even in nations where the criminal element is a significant threat.
America is also almost unique as a nation where the PEOPLE excercise their ABSOLUTE RIGHT to possess and wield arms, in their own defense.
FREE PEOPLE DO NOT ASK PERMISSION TO KEEP AND BEAR ARMS.

The U.N., an unbelievably inept, corrupt, and utterly useless international bureaucracy from day one, ...dreams of ruling the world. Mr. LaPierre compiles the evidence within this book. In these pages you will learn about the sexual violence and exploitation commited by U.N. "peace-keeping" troops. You will read about other notable U.N. scandals, in which Koffi Anan was a prominent figure, namely the Iraqi "Oil for Food" affair. You will read about the U.N. plan to divest America of its status as a sovereign nation. You will read about the U.N. plan to disarm not only American citizens, but the entire world.

The historical record is self-evident:
Whenever a government seeks to disarm the citizenry, you can wager that they have some very unpleasant plans for you.

Consider:
-Germany under National Socialism
-Russia, China, Cuba, North Korea, Cambodia, under Communism

Among the first steps taken to monopolize power by these regimes, was the DISARMAMENT OF PRIVATE CITIZENS. The next agenda was to "relocate" people in vast numbers by the train-load.

EVEN IN AMERICA:
-Before the Civil Rights movement, African-American people were severely limited in their options of possessing arms to defend themselves, and as we all know, they were subjected to many indignities and outright atrocities by their local governments, that were too numerous and frequent to be listed in detail.
-Native Americans, were almost entirely eliminated from the North American continent. The survivors were DISARMED and forced onto "reservations" ...some people would call them concentration-camps, in regard to the original conditions they were subjected too.
-Loyal Americans of Japanese ancestry were forcibly relocated to camps during World War II, because Roosevelt thought they would be "disloyal". Vast numbers of those Americans VOLUNTEERED to serve in the armed forces anyway, to prove their loyalty. They served as mainly as infantry, fighting in the most brutal campaigns in Europe.

These HISTORICAL FACTS are not to be disregarded as "mere history".
Similar events have taken place very recently, or are transpiring RIGHT NOW, somewhere in the world, in places under "U.N. protection".

WAKE-UP ...and READ Mr. Lapierre's thoroughly researched account of the U.N. record.

The socialist psychopaths that run the U.N. have an ultimate agenda for those masses of humanity outside their very small inner-circle. Maybe, if you are lucky, you or your descendants (if you are allowed to have any) may live out your lives as coolies in a vast and expendable U.N. labor-pool.

Some of you may be shipped out enmasse to "re-education camps" by the boxcar-load, at the earliest possible opportunity. You will leave such camps only through a smokestack.

"Gun-control" ...is ALL about CONTROL, and extremely UN-American.

5.0 out of 5 stars The U.N. plan to take away your guns, January 19, 2009
This review is from: The Global War on Your Guns: Inside the UN Plan To Destroy the Bill of Rights (Hardcover)
Book review on "The Global War on Your Guns - Inside the U.N. Plan to Destroy the Bill of Rights" written by Atty. James A. Denney (Nelson Current, 276 pp., $25.99) INDIVIDUAL FREEDOM, which is our birthright as well as our constantly defended inheritance from Western Civilization, has been relentlessly under attack here in America by a coalition of bleeding hearts, do-gooders and socialists, lead by the likes of Sarah Brady, Ted Kennedy, and their ilk. Spineless elected officials like our Senators DeWine and Voinovich, most of the time obediently follow their instructions. Thus far, we have been able to ward off their attacks on our right to keep and bear arms here in the United States, thanks to the leadership of the NRA and other pro-freedom organizations. In his latest book, The Global War on Your Guns, Wayne LaPierre exposes the international conspiracy being waged from outside the boundaries of U.S. politics to take our firearms away from us. LaPierre, who has served as Executive Vice President of the NRA for many years, has been in the forefront of our fight for freedom and has authored several books on the subject of gun rights prior to this one, but this is clearly his best effort to date. This international conspiracy to take away our guns is being waged by the United Nations, through the efforts and support of numerous totalitarian countries and NGO's (non-governmental organizations). The main NGO leading this anti-freedom fight is the International Action Network on Small Arms (IANSA), which is funded in part by George Soros, and heads up a coalition of nearly 500 other anti-freedom NGO's. The IANSA is lead by the infamous Rebecca Peters, whose goal is to take all small arms away from private citizens. LaPierre does a brilliant job in laying out the alphabet soup of U.N. Agencies and affiliated NGO's that exist for the sole purpose of disarming private citizens in America and throughout the world. He exposes the hypocrisy of Kofi Annan and the various dictatorships that lead the U.N. by the nose in its efforts to destroy our freedom. He demonstrates the arrogance of these anti-freedom groups in their holding of their recent "Global Gun Ban Conference" on our soil on this past 4th of July week. (This conference was an utter failure, thanks to the efforts of the Bush Administration and UN Ambassador John Bolton). This book also exposes how U.N. efforts to disarm private citizens has lead to ethnic cleansing and genocide in several countries, by leaving oppressed peoples defenseless (Rwanda, Sudan, etc.), thereby making the U.N. complicit in these crimes, as well as how the U.N. is now trying to take control of the world wide web away from the United States to prevent open and free internet debate on these issues. It was reassuring at one time to say that any international treaty needs to pass by a two-thirds majority in the U.S. Senate to be binding in the U.S. Unfortunately, LaPierre points out that there are ways of subverting this constitutional requirement, such as calling it an "agreement" rather than a treaty, as was done in the case of NAFTA, and other international agreements. A must-read for all people dedicated to freedom, this book is well researched and documented with over 700 footnotes, and is a timely and necessary weapon in the fight to defend freedom. Attorney Denney is a frequent contributor to these pages, and serves as Chairman of the Mahoning Valley Friends of NRA, President of the Mahoning County Federation of Sportsmen, and National Legal Counsel of the Pancretan Association of America. He was the lead counsel in the recent precedent-setting class action suit that ruled the Girard speed camera unconstitutional.

3.0 out of 5 stars Interesting, but goes a little overboard, July 18, 2006
By
Jill Malter (jillmalter@aol.com) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Global War on Your Guns: Inside the UN Plan To Destroy the Bill of Rights (Hardcover)
Guns don't kill people.

Bullets kill people.

Guns just make bullets go very fast.

I think that this book is alarmist. There is no immediate threat that the UN will take away the guns that we Americans own. If our guns are taken away, it is far more likely to be by the United States itself. And I doubt that even the U. S. government is about to take away my Anschutz target rifle.

Still, I think we Americans ought to be aware of our Second Amendment rights. And we also need to be aware of how serious it could be were those rights taken away. In addition, I think we need to be aware that an international organization such as the UN could be quite capable of wanting to do just that. And this book is informative in these areas.

As Wayne LaPierre explains, the following is the Second Amendment to the United States Constitution, an integral part of our Bill of Rights:

"A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed."

One could argue that this amendment is out of date, and that it applied only to a time when many Americans needed guns just to hunt for food. But the Amendment specifically refers to the use of guns for security. One could argue that only militias need guns, not people. But several congressional rulings have confirmed that the intent of this amendment is to allow small groups of citizens (even as few as one individual) to protect themselves, not merely to allow the State to protect itself. I'm not so sure that the amendment means that guns need to be allowed to be just about everywhere. But I have no doubt that very small groups of citizens need to have fairly quick access to weapons for use in self-defense, if this amendment is to be honored.

It is true that the United Nations did try to come up with a rule against "small arms" in 2001. But the United States, led by John Bolton, did not support it. And I think there is little chance that the U. S. would want to toss away its rights as a sovereign state on this matter. Nor do I think the United Nations is strong enough to ride roughshod over our claims to be a sovereign state.

On the other hand, I think there is a serious threat to human rights if a world government is ever formed. Such a government could very well be a global tyranny. And the removal of small arms from people does indeed make genocide a real risk. This book discusses several examples of mass murder. And it takes very little imagination to see what a difference an armed population can make. In World War Two, a dozen armed German soldiers could (and did) easily kill ten thousand (or more) unarmed Jews in just a couple of days, without even taking them out of their towns. And it was likely that not even one of these dozen soldiers would die in such an operation. But suppose that those ten thousand Jews had possessed a mere hundred (let alone a thousand), um, Anschutz target rifles. These are hardly military equipment. They use rimfire subsonic 22-caliber ammunition. But that's potentially deadly at 10 to 60 yards (actually, such fire can kill folks at well over ten times that range). And those who can get shots off will almost surely hit their targets at such close ranges. Mass murder would not be quite so easy in that case. So I agree with the author that small arms can indeed mean survival for some communities.

While I think the UN is not about to take away our guns, that in no way means that I feel the UN is harmless. And I think LaPierre is right to remind us of the extent of UN corruption, the UN's horrible (and truly counterproductive) record at preventing genocide, and the UN's failure to oppose terrorism. The UN stand on terrorism should indeed concern us all. As the author shows, not only does the UN fund terrorists all over the world, "it actively prevents settlement of the Arab-Israeli conflict, it funds vicious hate propaganda, and allows its refugee camps and schools to be used as terrorist bases and bomb factories." That means to me that if the UN did have the opportunity to rule the world, it would be very dangerous indeed, not merely to American Second Amendment rights, but to human rights for everyone. The author uses the International Court of Justice (ICJ) which was established by the UN as another example. The ICJ ruled against Israel's security barrier. But that barrier was simply there to reduce terrorist attacks, so the ICJ ruling was against Israel's right of self-defense. I agree with the author's implication that the UN and ICJ would be happy to rule against self-defense in general.

I think the book goes overboard on the seriousness of the UN threat to take away our guns, so I'm only giving it three stars. But I think it is proper for us to be aware of the UN's ill will and the risks it would pose to everyone were it to get the chance.
