I ordered these 23-watt CFLs to replace 100-watt bulbs in a few locations at home. I had read that "cool white" fluorescents were better for reading. The bulbs work just fine. If you decide to use cool white CFLs, though, be prepared to have your living space lit up with the sort of bluish-white glow you'd see in a doctor's office or dentist's office.

In fact, in the living room, we actually decided to replace the cool whites with soft whites so that we had the slightly yellowish glow we've all become used to in living spaces. It was just too odd--almost eerie--having that antiseptic white glow.

We ended up putting the cool whites in light fixtures that were covered by yellowish covers or globes. That seemed to do the trick.

Now, all that being said, 100-watt soft white CFLs are just fine for reading. And people have told us they notice no difference between these new bulbs and the old incandescent bulbs we used to have in our house. I can't speak yet for longevity, however we're trying hard to heed warnings we've read stating that frequent on and off of the CFLs can shorten their lifespan to that of a standard incandescent. So we don't use them in closets, for example. Finally, I haven't gotten an electric bill yet since the changeover, but I'm hoping to at least make a dent in our usage.

These CFLs are bright! We put one outside and it was putting out as much light as the street light across the street. Good deal! They were unfortunately too tall to fit in the interior fixtures I was hoping to replace. Something to keep in mind. Guess I need better light fixtures.

The bulbs work well, but before you buy them make sure the places you want to put them will allow for a bulb that is somewhat longer than a regular light bulb. I bought a bunch of these, hoping to change all of the bulbs in my house to the more efficient fluorescent bulb. Whereas they worked very nicely in lamps and such that were not hindered by length requirements, I found they would not fit in many of my ceiling lights that had covers on them. The bulbs, even though they are the compact size, were just too long and did not allow the cover to be placed back on the light. The many bulbs I was able to change out did lower my monthly kw hour usage of electricity, but the electric company raised their rates so much my electrical charges actually increased. (but that is not fault of the bulb, and the charges would have been even higher had I not changed). While I would recommend these bulbs, I would also hope that the manufactures of these bulbs develope a shorter version in the future that will better accomodate installation in ceiling light fixtures.

Seems that with these type bulbs, size matters. The more wattage you want, the larger the bulb. This one was so large that it wouldn't fit vertically in the socket I wanted to use it in. Very frustrating. I even specified I needed a "small" or "miniature" size, but that is not what I got. If you order this buld (advertized as "Mini"), be sure it will fit in your intended socket. The base is standard, but vertical length varies with wattage.

the package arrived with bulbs broken inside. I called amazon and offered to return, and they asked me to discard the contents and gave me a refund. Both the manufacturer and amazon should have packaged these items better. Anyway, I went and bought the bulbs from the local store. Basically ended up wasting a week waiting for the bulbs. Overall, the only good thing to mention here is that amazon's customer service folks did a good job with the apology and refund.

After installing these cool white bulbs, I realized I don't care for the starkness of their illumination. They were also just a tad too long for several fixtures but that error is mine as the product dimensions given were accurate. I have relegated these bulbs to the closets and basement where they serve us well.

Once an environmentalist, always an environmentalist. When I saw the recent offer on Amazon for mini compact flourescent spiral bulbs I decided that this was the perfect opportunity to do a mass replacement of incandescent bulbs in my home, starting with the track-lights in my kitchen. I bought the 13-watt bulbs & they turned out to be almost too bright! I decided to see if the 23-watt bulb could actually replace a reading light in my bedroom. I was very pleasantly surprised to find that it was more than adequate. I replaced a 150-watt incandescent with the 23-watt mini compact flourescent, & "Voila! There was Light! I have now replaced all the bulbs in my house & even the front porch light with flourescents with great satisfaction. Anyone who worries that these compact flourescents will not provide adequate illumination can lay their fears to rest. I highly recommend them! My electric bill has already reflected the improvement.

I received the WRONG bulb. I searched for "candelabra fluorscent bulbs" and this one came up on the search. It was displayed next to other "small base" bulbs, as well as regular base bulbs. The picture looked as if it had a small base (comparing it to the other pictures - and my search DID bring me to the page). I ordered a pack of 4 and received them in due time. Unfortunately I did NOT open the box and when I did - they had the WRONG base. Try as I might there was/is no way to contact the vendor. Amazon is/was no help either since when I tried to return it I was informed it was out of time (by 2 days). There is NO WAY to contact AMAZON about my problem, the "Globe" web site on the box is useless (saying it is "under construction" _ which I asolutly do NOT believe! - or else it is a real LOW priority with the company.) SO - really this is a "bad" review against Amazon (since the search brought me to the wrong place (item) coupling it with misleading pictures, as well as Globe for displaying the bulb incorrectly (It seems to be fixed now on Amazon). And Amazon is disappointing since there seems to be NO WAY to actually communicate with a live person.

I have purchased many things from AMAZON (and probably will continue to do so) BUT I am somewhat dismayed that they have no way to deal with a real person to handle exceptional situations. If they do -- it is well HIDDEN from their customers!!

Great product. Really puts out the watts! Now I want to put them in all my lamps.

The cool white is annoying - too much glare. Could never use these in my home, except in a closet or hall maybe. This is called a mini compact bulb, but it still won't fit in most fixtures. Every couple years, we try out this type of bulb and find they're lacking and expensive, as well as sometimes short-lived. We do have a couple of the warm white versions and they're more acceptable as far as the quality of light, although the brightness level is lower than the cool white.
