5.0 out of 5 stars Work Quite Well
These bulbs basically work as expected. The light is pretty warm and near indistinguishable from that of an incandescent bulb. Like all compact fluorescents, these take a few seconds to "warm up" to maximum brightness, but they turn on instantly. 3.0 out of 5 stars Just OK
These work pretty well, but they are MASSIVE. They're probably an inch and a half longer than a regular lightbulb and thicker as well.

Depending on what you're going to use these for, you need to keep their size in mind. If you are wanting to replace regular bulbs in an enclosed fixture with a globe or dome, for example, be sure there is plenty of space...

I ordered these bulbs because I wanted to replace the bulbs in my overhead lights fixtures (which take little bulbs with regular-sized bases). The first thing I noticed is that despite being "mini" these bulbs are actually pretty large -- at least twice, if not three times, the size of chandelier bulbs. Unlike the other compact fluorescent light bulbs I own (I think I have the Sylvania brand), these ones emit a faint hum and take a second to turn on. They are also not as bright as the other "100 Watt equivalent" bulbs I own, which also take 23W.

On the positive side, they DO work (I don't know about the comparable lifespan), and they're cheaper than the Sylvania brand (I pay $5 each at the grocery store).

Besides the substantial energy savings and longer lifespan, these bulbs produce much less ambient heat than incandescents, meaning they aren't fighting my air conditioner if I'm trying to cool my apartment, and the metal shade of my bedside lamp stays cool to the touch.

4.0 out of 5 stars Not exactly mini compact, February 12, 2007
This review is from: Globe 48526 23-Watt Mini Compact Fluorescent Spiral Bulb (100-Watt Incandescent Equivalent), Soft White, 4 Pack (Tools & Home Improvement)
Its larger than a regular lightbulb, so I wouldn't call it mini compact. Brighter than a comparable 100 watt bulb, but gives off a very slight yellow color.

2.0 out of 5 stars one star for each bulb that still works, February 22, 2008

This was my first experience with compact fluorescent bulbs. I ordered a four pack of the 23 watt bulbs and a four pack of the 13 watt bulbs. The 23 watt bulbs arrived first. They were thrown in a box with very little packaging. One of the bulbs had broken. This was a bit disturbing since they contain mercury. After doing some research, I learned that if you break a fluorescent bulb, the mercury is only hazardous within the first 15 minutes or so. This is because it is in a gas form and will soon disperse into the environment. So if you break one, walk away and try to ventilate the room it was broken in. Anyhow, I sent the bulbs back (including the broken one). This was very easy and I received new bulbs about two days later that were in their original packaging. Thank you Amazon for making this so easy. I also received a confirmation email indicating that they received the damaged bulbs. When I got the bulbs home, I found that they were slightly too thick to fit into one of my floor lamps. I consisder this a learning experience and I don't blame Globe for this. I put a bulb in my other floor lamp and it burned out in about 15-30 minutes. The second one lasted about two days. The third and fourth ones are still going after a couple of weeks. I would not order from Globe again.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Value here!, May 13, 2007
This review is from: Globe 48526 23-Watt Mini Compact Fluorescent Spiral Bulb (100-Watt Incandescent Equivalent), Soft White, 4 Pack (Tools & Home Improvement)
Fabulous. These bulbs will outlast regular incadescent bulbs 10 fold. They save money and they are COOL to use, no heat. They are quiet, no buzzing, not even with your ear to the bulb. They are bright, and cost less than 1/4 to illuminate as regular bulbs. Use them in those hard to reach locations like the garage ceiling. You will not need to get out that ladder to change them for likely 15 years. The savings, the convenience, the advantages make this deal stellar. Order 1 set of 4 and you will be back (like me).

1.0 out of 5 stars Great Bulb If You Can Get It, November 29, 2007
This review is from: Globe 48526 23-Watt Mini Compact Fluorescent Spiral Bulb (100-Watt Incandescent Equivalent), Soft White, 4 Pack (Tools & Home Improvement)
Like it's 60 Watt equivalent from the same manufacturer, the bulbs themselves are a great buy for the price. Unfortunately, just as others have noted, you may need some luck on your side to get these to arrive without being in pieces. The 4 bulbs get packaged in a carton and along the way, it is likely they smash into each other. I ordered 3 boxes and two of them were completely smashed on arrival. I had also ordered the 60 watt variant, but the packaging on those is the vacuum plastic type and those survived without problems. I would think twice about ordering these with the sole reason that they will likely arrive destroyed.

4.0 out of 5 stars Nice but a bit of adjustment, June 1, 2007
This review is from: Globe 48526 23-Watt Mini Compact Fluorescent Spiral Bulb (100-Watt Incandescent Equivalent), Soft White, 4 Pack (Tools & Home Improvement)
I would say they are closer to a 75 watt Equivalent;
It is a much colder feeling light;
It takes about 1 second to turn on and about 20-30 to reach full brightness. (hard to get used to)

All that said, I will definitely continue buying them because the benefits far outweigh the downsides, and I will probably be used to the changes after a little while.

It cost around $250 to replace the lights in my 2000 sq ft house. The light is at least as bright, if not brighter, than the old light bulbs. Here in expesnive Southern California, the savings will be worth it.

I have no problem with the bulbs, but they were shipped loose in a box with some Fill-Air on top. Needless to say, many of them showed up in pieces. Broken glass was falling out of the boxes as I picked them up. Not good. I assumed they would be in clam shell packaging like the ones you would buy at Home Depot or Lowes, but that's not the case. It'd be easier to just go to Home Depot or Lowes and pick them up. That way you'll know they're intact when you get them.
