4.0 out of 5 stars Okay...
I suppose if you're a "lamp geek" or engineer, you might know that a GU24 bulb (which this lamp requires) is NOT a standard bulb base, but instead has two posts at the base which lock into the lamp. I, however, did not know this and ordered spare bulbs with standard household bases. It also comes with a bulb, so it's not a critical issue, it's just irritating that we're...

I have had the lamp for a week and am returning it because the following information was not in the description: the on/off switch is not located anywhere on the lamp itself, but is instead on the cord. I thought it was automatic that a lamp like this would have an on/off switch on the top of the lamp, or someplace on the base. If it's on the cord, it just is really hard to turn on and off because it requires reaching behind my desk.

I, however, did not know this and ordered spare bulbs with standard household bases. It also comes with a bulb, so it's not a critical issue, it's just irritating that we're somehow supposed to know that a part number means non-standard.

Otherwise it seems to be a decent lamp/desk organizer.

4.0 out of 5 stars Basic lamp basically works, February 19, 2009
This review is from: Globe 5210801 Energy Saving Desk Lamp, Black (Tools & Home Improvement)
Nothings special, just a plain desk lamp. It comes with one bulb. I took off one star because the light switch is about one foot down the electrical cord, which means if you put the lamp at the edge of your desk the switch is dangling off the side.

1.0 out of 5 stars why would you buy this???, January 18, 2010

By buying this lamp, you are locking yourself into buying an uncommon and expensive bulb. Just buy a regular lamp with a screw-type bulb and you can put the cheap cfls in there instead of some crappy $15 cfl (which this lamp requires).

LAME

Buyer beware. This lamp does NOT take regular compact fluorescent light bulbs. The bottom of the bulb has these two tiny metal circles on it, that connnect to the lamp. Whenever this lamp stops working, i will definitely buy a different brand that takes regular bulbs.

Amazon even suggested that i buy a box of compact fluorescent bulbs made by the same company. Of course, these bulbs don't even work with this lamp! Good job Amazon! Guess i'm not the first (and probably won't be the last) person who falls for that one!

Terrible purchase overall.

I echo the other reviewers' comments about the switch being at an odd location. No matter where I have put this on two different desks it is very awkward and requires leaning down and over the other items that may be around it in order to cut it on and off. Otherwise it is a nice lamp that I can use as the main lamp in my small home office without having to burn the overhead just to read or see my copy as I am typing from it.

This little light weight desk lamp is bright !!!!!!
The bulb is one of those new curly type bulbs, and provides bright white light that seems like sunlight.
I use it to illuminate my office desk when I work at night, and I don't want the extremely bright ceiling lights illuminating the entire office on all night. It is definitely worth the money. You should note that the on and off switch is on the electrical cord itself, and not on the body of the lamp. This doesn't bother me since the electrical cord runs part of the way down my desk, and I have easy access to the on and off switch. But that might be an issue for some other people.

This lamp comes with a non-standard bulb that you won't find in town. Unless you're willing to track it down and order spare bulbs as you need them online, this lamp will be useless when the bulb goes.

Perfect little lamp for desk. I like the switch on the cord as those on the lamp itself have always broken for me.

The lamp is good that it uses a energy saving bulb, which gives out strong light without making the lamp hot, that's the best I like it.
