5.0 out of 5 stars Bright, crisp, economic, but not cold.
This is exactly what I needed. A bright, economical light bulb that would keep me awake for hours and diminish the eyestrain while I work on my computer all night, but without the cold, hospital-like blueish-white tint of other fluorescent light bulbs.

I'm totally in favor of saving energy and the environment using compact fluorescent bulbs, but I can't recommend this particular one. It supposedly delivers the lumens of a150 watt bulb, which is a lot for a compact florescent, but unfortunately, I found this 40 watt model only slightly brighter than the 23 watt models (100 equivalent) from GE and Sylvania. This bulb is very bright and works great in the garage, but it is also very tall. It may not fit or it may stick up above standard laps/floor laps or other light fixtures.

It supposedly delivers the lumens of a150 watt bulb, which is a lot for a compact florescent, but unfortunately, I found this 40 watt model only slightly brighter than the 23 watt models (100 equivalent) from GE and Sylvania. Also, it is very large -- it wouldn't fit in two of my standard lamps. It is a compact, but you need to look for a compact "mini twist" to fit a typical living room lamp with a shade. Also, the light is rather yellow, even for a compact florescent. So far I have been most happy with Sylvania and GE products. I would try those first.

The strength and quality of the light is very good but the size and shape of the bulb make it very difficult to find a fixture where it can be used.

3.0 out of 5 stars Shorter than expected lifespan, a bit pricey, January 20, 2009
This review is from: Globe 0784001 40-Watt Compact Fluorescent Reader Bulb (150-Watt Incandescent Equivalent), Soft White (Tools & Home Improvement)
My home office happens to be in the basement, meaning that lights are on in the basement 8-12 hours every day. I was so happy, last year, when I purchased a few of the 40-Watt (that shine like a 150-Watt) bulbs because they really brightened my life without making me feel too guilty about wasting resources.

Sadly, and surprisingly, these bulbs did not last. Of the 4 bulbs I bought a little more than a year ago, during a good sale event, 3 have died already. The packaging on these fluorescent bulbs usually mentions 'longer life' an advantage. It's not the case with these. Due to their high price and their short lifespan I am using the 23-Watt (100 Watt-like) equivalent flourescents that can be had for a fraction of the price (come in six-packs) and even seem to last longer. I do wish that the 150-Watt-like bulbs were of a higher quality or were sold for a more reasonable price because I could certainly use them.

I have no choice but to take away 2 stars for their surprisingly short lifespan (bad workmanship?) and for the unreasonably high price. My recommendation: until both price and quality improve, you're better off with the 23-Watt (that are 100-Watt-like) six-packs.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great bulb, just check where you want to use it, June 30, 2008
This review is from: Globe 0784001 40-Watt Compact Fluorescent Reader Bulb (150-Watt Incandescent Equivalent), Soft White (Tools & Home Improvement)
I've been using this bulb for months now and it works like a charm. It's bright, white and silent. The only thing to keep an eye out for, as others have mentioned, is it's size. It hasn't been a problem in my case; just make sure that where you want to use it has plenty of room for the bulb. It extends ~16cm (~6.5") beyond the socket.

Bought 4 of the 40 watt bulbs (150 watt equiv.) to use in 2 different lamps. None of the 4 lasted as long as 60 days.

Two out of ten of these lightbulbs that I ordered were broken in the packaging. Amazon just threw them in a box and put a bunch of those air bags on top. I had to repackage the broken bulbs and send them back. Pathetic. Oh, by the way, The lightbulbs that weren't broken work very nicely. However, I won't buy lightbulbs from Amazon again.

We have slowly been replacing all of our bulbs as they burn out and have been very pleased with the quality and cost efficency of the new bulbs. We are seeing a significant decrease in our electric bill after replacing about twenty bulbs in the house.

The product labeling in the advertisement is inconsistent with the labeling on the product itself. It is labeled as "Globe 0784001 40-Watt Compact Fluorescent Reader Bulb (150-Watt Incandescent Equivalent), Soft White". Instead, the bulb actually says on it that it is a 15 watt bulb, and on the package it says it is a 40 watt replacement. This means that it is equivalent to an incandescent bulb of 40 watts. It is very dim, and absolutely not what I ordered.
