5.0 out of 5 stars Rock On, Sheryl!
The Globe Sessions is a remarkable release, and it is, in my opinion, Sheryl Crow's best work to date (even taking the remarkable follow-up C'mon, C'mon into consideration). 1.0 out of 5 stars Not a Sheryl Crow fan after this CD
Bought a few CDs that have the 5.1 capacity for my car. This was not one of my favorites...guess I am not a SC fan.

The Globe Sessions is a remarkable release, and it is, in my opinion, Sheryl Crow's best work to date (even taking the remarkable follow-up C'mon, C'mon into consideration). Every track is a delight to listen to, and over four years after the fact, the purchase of this DTS disc is well worth the wait. And though it is worth waiting for, I would, however, recommend that you get this as soon as possible.

It is true that My Favorite Mistake and Anything But Down were not the chart toppers that Ms. Crow's previous top 40 releases were, and it is perhaps the main premise upon which critics might argue that the Globe Sessions recordings merely reflected a period of when the creativite energy levels of Sheryl Crow were nearing exhaustion. If you listen to the other tunes that The Globe Sessions is comprised of, I believe that you would think otherwise.

The Globe Sessions is a separate release of its own. The nearest thing to it is perhaps the music in George Harrison's All Things Must Pass, for quite a few of the guitar riffs are a bit reminiscent of those once played by the late, great former Beatle. And what is also great about The Globe Sessions is that it is both laid back and energetic at the same time.

All in all, it seems so apparent that this was a project that Sheryl Crow wanted to produce and release, regardless of how it would fare in the rankings of the Billboard issues.

Please get this on the DTS-ES disc. The sound is encoded in 6.1-Channel Extended Surround and is absolutely superb.

5.0 out of 5 stars 6,1 Channel DTS CD is amazing, June 19, 2001

Truly an amazing DTS CD. It is recording in discrete 6.1 channel sound but is compatible with 5.1 channel. For those with a 6.1 channel DTS discrete system (currently only Denon consumer products), the CD actually starts in the rear center channel. That is one of the few times the mix is "gimicky".

Compared with many unbalanced DVD-Audio mixes, this DTS CD is truly a treat. And, unlike most DVD-Audio releases, this artist is still recording.

Excellent music, excellent mix. Couldn't be recommended more.

5.0 out of 5 stars My favorite Sheryl Crow album, November 19, 2011

I was amazed to find this recording available in 5.1 surround sound. I would recommend it to all Sheryl Crow fans who have a DTS system. The only drawback is this is the US release of The Globe Sessions. It would have really been terrific if the disc included all the global bonus tracks.

5.0 out of 5 stars This album defines folk rock., December 3, 2001
This review is from: Globe Sessions (Dts-Es) (Audio CD)
When I first recieved this CD as a gift, I didn't listen to it for several weeks. I don't know why, I just didn't get the chance or something. Soon, however, after I placed it in my CD player, I was blown away by its artistic consistency, lyrical depth, variety and so much more. I remember seeing Ken Burns Jazz, and a man remarked that when he had purchased one of Louis Armstrong's old records, he would listen to each song till he totally absorbed it then moved on to the next. I had never remembered having such an experience, except with this CD. Now, Sheryl hasn't invented anything with this album. But she is doing it, arguably, better than anyone else. And her personal investement in the CD makes her more that just a great performer. She's one of the best singer/songwriters of the 90's, thrown around with names like Sarah McLachlin.

Some standouts:

*"Riverwide" is the best song of the CD. The story is fresh, the emotion true, and the music wonderful!

*Despite being radio songs, "My Favorite Mistake" and "You Don't Bring Me Anything But Down" are pop rockers that please without being trite. (Just listen to the latter's title)
*"The Difficult Kind" and "Crash and Burn" are poetry. They show why breaking up and starting over, with a dash of shame, longing, and determination, are a cocktail that's hard to sip.
*"Mississippi" was written by Bob Dylan, performed by Sheryl Crow. Need I say more?

Globe Sessions--buy it, love it.

4.0 out of 5 stars Much better than Rockin The Globe!, May 28, 2001

This DTS release of The Globe Sessions sounds wonderful and fills the room with sound the way I wish Rockin the Globe on DVD would have done. The insturments and background vocals float through the room while sheryl's vocals come powerfully through the center channel. If you are a fan of Sheryl Crow you cannot miss out on this one. I just wish it had been released sooner!!

I purchased a DVD-Audio player (w/DTS & D/D) with the promise that I would not Re-Purchase my whole CD collection. Now, I have to break that promise. I got the Sheryl Crow 5.1 DTS disc & upon listening to the whole disc, I noticed that the room and the world became a bit brighter, my eyes & ears had been opened wider than they had ever been before! Background vocals coming from the background, guitars to the left & right of me, drums coming from who knows where. An amazing experience, can't wait till they do the Sinatra Catalog!! Highly recommended format!

4.0 out of 5 stars Wow., June 11, 2001

Apparently Sheryl Crow or her producers are really in tune with how people listen to music, because the recording quality on this CD is amazing. It's simply some of the best recorded music I've ever heard. However, I was disappointed to find no track 12 like on the "Extra Tracks" same titled regular audio CD. Track 12 is supposed to be "Sweet Child O' Mine", a cover she did of the Guns N' Roses song. I really liked her version after hearing it in the movie "Big Daddy." Oh well, in conclusion, if you like her music, and you have a DTS surround sound system this album is a must. Enjoy.
