Formula Sheryl, but she's got it right!,

This review is from: The Globe Sessions (Audio CD)
I really don't get all this business about this album being too 'whiney'. The only whining I hear is the people reviewing it. I think it's just a fine album. My CD doesn't have the bonus track, but I think it still sounds great. It runs the gamut from Rock to ballads and does it successfully. I love 'There goes the Neighborhood' and obviously 'My Favorite Mistake', but the sound of the CD is well-rounded all over. I like the whole concept of making the disc sound like it was recorded on an old reel-to-reel tape recorder. My opinion is that if you like Sheryl Crow, then you should buy this album and form your own ideas about whether you like it or not. I almost didn't buy this CD because of the things that I had heard about it. I would've been missing out. Don't let that happen to you.

My favorite "mistake",

If you even kind of like Sheryl Crow, you'll love this disc. I was wrong in listening to a bunch of sold out music critics rip this CD to shreds and waited months to buy it. I haven't taken it out of my stereo yet. Her vocals overcome any supposed musical inadequacies claimed by others. I think it's her best work by far.

She keeps on evolving,

I've enjoyed Sheryl Crow since her first album, but she was never what I would call my "favorite". It appears that I underestimated her. She is shaping up to be the rare artist who keeps on getting better with each release. I thought the second album was a bit better than the first, and now the "Globe Sessions" even that much better than both of them. You can't ask for much more from an artist than a devotion to their craft, love for what they do and honesty...even if it isn't always "life is beautiful..happy..happy..happy". This album is by a real person for real people, whose life and emotions run the gamut from elation to despair. Whoever wrote the "Amazon" review at the top of this page is entitled to their opinion...but I have to wonder what they listened to, because it sure wasn't this album. Far superior to the highly touted Lauryn Hill album. Buy Crow instead.

Though there are no abundance of top 40 hits on this, this is the record that cemented Sheryl as a star. A California production through and through in the tradition of the Beach Boys, to the Eagles, to Fleetwood Mac.
My favorites are not what you hear on the radio: Riverwide, The Difficult Kind. Heartfelt, the result of bloody hard work.

Classic Crow. A hauntingly beautiful album from one of the most consistent musicians out there.

Poetic lyrics backed by great rhythms. She produced this one as well. Sheryl Crow is arguably the most complete combination of songwriter, musician, performer, and producer today. This could be her "Rumours". A classic.

She gets more perfect every time!,

When I heard "Sheryl Crow", I tought that was the best CD I've ever heard, but for my surprise, "The Globe Sessions" is even better. And Ms. Crow is able to make every critic and jeallous singers shut up, because she is true about her work... she isn't a marketing product (such as Celine Dion), and her music really touches me. And a message to the Gun's N Roses fans: Sweet Child O' Mine is only good when it comes from Sheryl Crow's mouth!

Another great record from Sheryl Crow,

This record didn't rock me as much as her last one ("Sheryl Crow") but maybe it's because that last one really took me by surprise and built me up for this. She has it all, lyrics, voice, instrumental chops, songcraft, and production savvy. In fact I'm hard pressed to think of anyone working today who is quite as gifted. That said, these songs are a little more clever and a little less viscerally emotional--that is to say, even the heartbreaky songs have a bitter cool to them, whereas her last record seemed more passionate (I'm sure some will disagree). Still, aside from a kinda weak cover of Bob Dylan's "Mississippi," each track really holds up on its own. Sheryl Crow is the real deal, folks, and we're better for it!(Not to mention, does she have to be so beautiful?!)

Stronger and more personal than other albums,

I've been a Sheryl Crow fan since the album, "Tuesday Night Music Club", and all I can say is, this album is awesome. Her voice, sound, and lyrics in The Globe Sessions are stronger than in her other albums. From the moment I first heard "My Favorite Mistake" I knew I had to get the album as soon as it came out, and all I can say is, I was not disappointed. Her tone and audience have changed over the years. Her first CD was focused on her folk-like crooning. Her second album, "Sheryl Crow" was focused on her loud and popular personality. This is what I would call a happy medium. Her folky presence and popular style are both evident on The Globe Sessions, which, I think, make for a great album. This is a definite must-have.

great breakup album,

This new album by Sheryl Crow grows on you. At first listen, it seems like a pale imitation of her previous works, but soon you will discover its magic. Many of the songs are about breakup and sadness, and this translates really well if you listen to it late at night with the lights off. Try "There goes the neighborhood", "my favorite mistake", "crash and burn" and the excellent Guns n roses cover "Sweet child o' mine". Good stuff!
