It's a highway hazard marker.I don't know how the people who dream these things up can live with themselves. This is NOT a railroad lantern pattern; it is a type used to mark hazards in the street before the advent of traffic cones, electric flashers and other night time markers. They dream up these "collectibles" and charge just about what a nice little late vintage Adlake Kero lantern would cost. I suspect that the retailers themselves quite often don't know what a real railroad lantern looks like. If this at least LOOKED like a railroad lantern, I wouldn't mind so much. I just hate to think that someone bought this "...nice reproduction" when it isn't a RAILROAD reproduction. It's just a red barn lantern. |
