5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent despite the obvious lack
I'm of the opinion that this disc missing the show's main title is a rather minor point. The sometimes funky, sometimes inspiring music brings back the atmosphere and antics of some of the show's hosts. It was hard for me not to think of wacky Ian Wright as I listened to some tracks. On other tracks, I could envision the shows they came from and the lands visited...

3.0 out of 5 stars Interesting but ...
it's NOT the same as the original soundtrack. For those who've bemoaned the missing track, it's at Globe Trekker: Original Journeys, the CD with the orange cover.

2.0 out of 5 stars waitin' for the 2nd Edition, May 27, 2002

This review is from: Globe Trekker Volume 1 (Audio CD)
First off, I was disappointed that the opening/theme song to Globe Trekker failed to make it on the track list. Ignoring that oversight, this CD is your run-of-the-mill techno/ambient playlist. Arguably, Tracks 1, 2, and 7 are the best (Ivory Weekend, Carnival w/ Reprise, and Forest Song) though there is something here for just about anybody. For a show that is so visually striking in its use of video and Super8 film cuts, the music provides a substantial underlying and supporting layer.

If this review sounds wishy-washy, then it reflects the CD. Nothing on this disc will blow you away, but if you want some background music to read, cook, clean, or drive to, then buy it. In short, Globe Trekker (Vol. 1) plays along the lines of the Blackhawk Down soundtrack. However, if you're seeking a powerful score along the lines of Unbreakable, Last of the Mohicans, Gladiator, or selected tracks from the Matrix, then skip this disc.

That being said, the good people at Globe Trekker just released Volume 2 of Soundtrack music. Amazon might have that soon...

This disc is NOT a stinker and I think is worth every penny of what I spent for it.
I do find it hard that Vol. 2 is not available on Amazon.com. Oversight? I might have to go to the www.glodetrekkertv.com site to buy it. As for now, the other selection Amazon has will see me buying a copy.

5.0 out of 5 stars If you love the music on the show..., May 17, 2003

I watch the show every week, and simply love the music. I am, too, disappointed that the main theme isn't on the soundtrack; yet, I still love this soundtrack. It's funny to watch the series and actually hear some of the songs on the soundtrack, as well. Every song is unique and have the tendency to flow smoothly. It's a great soundtrack to cruise on long trips with, clean with, have as background mood music, or just to listen to anytime. I do admit it took me a while to actually love the soundtrack as much as I do, but all in all it's a great find.

4.0 out of 5 stars Very unique!, February 11, 2006
This review is from: Globe Trekker Volume 1 (Audio CD)
My favorite song on this album was 'karkee' which was #9! I first heard it on tv, they were playing it on the music channels. I thought that it had the most unique sound to it so I decided to check the soundtrack out. The rest of the songs were pretty good too! Overall I would recommend this soundtrack to people who like Moby and the Chemical Brothers.

4.0 out of 5 stars I liked it, January 9, 2003

I'm surprised at the negative editorials, I liked it and I don't think it's bad. I agree and think it's great for walking or exercising, or cleaning. I'm no world music aficianado, but it's a good "starter" CD. I do have to say that is very pricey ... best to look for and buy it used -- I did.
