Will history repeat itself?,
By A Customer
This review is from: Glom Gloom (Library Binding)
I read this book to my students years ago, when my now 24 year-old-son was in my 4th grade class. The fantasy transported us to the quaint hamlet of Waterpushin and we were introduced to such strange characters! The new vocabulary became intertwined and part of our vernacular that year--it was almost like secret code. I've searched and searched for this book and am grateful that I finally have a copy, thanks to Amazon.com. If you've never read this book to your children, and they love language and fantasy, then you can't let this opportunity pass you by. Jo Dereske and her novel are sure to give you many incredible conversations with your children as you cozy down to relish each chapter. Does history repeat itself, will Walter Fibbey find out if the Gartergates are for true? The answers lie between the pages of this fantastic book.

One of my favorite books as a child.,

Glom Gloom was read to me by the school librarian when I was in the third grade, it was a new book at the time. I was captivated by the wonderful story writing capabilities of Jo Dereske. Raymond, the town trouble maker and doubting Thomas of the old legends decides to explore find whether the legends of the Garter Gates and their races' once enslavement were just some mumbo-jumbo that the adults tell to frighten their children into obedience, or something that they should be paying much more close attention to and not just celebrating the liberation day. I would recommend this story for any child who can read it, and adults. In my opinion, it still is one of the best books I have ever read.

This turned out to be a reissue of a book published in 1982. I was looking for a book as good as the Miss Zukas books but found a fantasy this I did not enjoy.

Glom GloomJo has become my favourite author since I discovered Henning Mankell. I just can't put her books down and dread the day when I've read them all. You go Jo.
