Music that stood the test of time!,
By
This review is from: Bill and Gloria Gaither and Their Homecoming Friends: Rock of Ages (DVD)
Rock of Ages, a 2008 production features music that has stood the test of time, classic hymns and prayer songs from many years with timeless messages. The highlight of this DVD concert is a 1997 performance of "Rock of Ages", by Vestal Goodman (death 2003). The setting is with a beautiful backdrop and the mood is mellow. The pace is with slower songs and includes several acapella versions. The concert begins with several members singing "When I Survey the Wondrous Cross".
Some other highlights include, Randy Owen from Alabama performing his own "One Big Heaven", about friends, his parents, and himself; a newer group Greater Vision sings "Lily of the Valley/Fairest Lord Jesus"; The Blackwood Brothers do "More About Jesus"; and Jessy Dixon sings the prayer song "Fill My Cup." Andrae Crouch wrote one of the all-time greatest gospel songs, "Through it All", because of a broken heart, and it became a therapy song. He suffered greatly because of this broken heart. I love the beautiful soothing song by all "Jesus I Come". Armond Morales former member of the Imperials leads with "The Love of God". Mark Lowry sings "Does Jesus Care/God Will Take Care of You." Bill Gaither is an honorary member of the Barbershop Harmony Society and invited the international quartet champions, Acoustix to sing God Bless America. Other acapella songs include The Martins "All People That on Earth Do Dwell"; Florida Boys "Stand by Me"; Cynthia Clawson sings "Abide With Me"; The Talley Trio "Hallelujah Praise the Lord" and a newer group, The Collingsworth Family "May the Good Lord Bless and Keep You." Donnie Sumner, nephew of the late J.D. Sumner sings "Then I Met the Master"; Jason Crabb-"The Blood Will Never" Joni Lamb-"Turn Your Eyes Upon Jesus." Sue Dodge, a long-timer with the Friends shared personal health issues she endured that included neck surgery and threat to her vocal cords. She sings a special song "He Was There All The Time. " This is another wonderful concert......Rizzo

Mother loved it. Had some of the older singers that have passed away on it, she really enjoyed this.
