I like this DVD. There are many artists singing and performances of Natalie Grant and Whintley Phipps are superb. Mark Lowry is always funny and GVB sings. But Let Freedom Ring, recorded at same concert, is better.

This DVD is loaded with talent: Some very reverent, some very funny, and a lot of variety. I think it is better than Let Freedom Ring. I like them both, but the humor on this one is better; there is a fantastic harmonica solo by Buddy Green (I think I got that right), David's "The End of the Beginning," is outstanding. The quartet is outstanding. Linda Randal sings a lovely song with Andrea Crouch at the piano. It is post 911, and was done at the same time as Let Freedom Ring. Both these DVDs help remind us of what it means to live in this country. Mickey

God Bless America - Live From Carnegie Hall,

Another Great Evening with Bill Gaither and the Homecoming Friends
Bill and Gloria Gaither, the Gaither Vocal Band, and Mark Lowry host this live concert from Carnegie Hall. "God Bless America" is another in the popular "Gaither Gospel Series." I found it hard not to compare this concert recording with the "Let Freedom Ring" concert, also from Carnegie Hall. Both concerts honored America, the hero's of 9/11, and testimony through word and song of the "Homecoming Friends" as they use Gospel music as a tool to honor the Lord Jesus Christ. A unique feature of this concert was the number of well known featured guest performers: George Beverly Shea, Andre Crouch, Wintley Phipps, and Larnelle Harris. I enjoyed the narratives from Billy Graham, Gloria Gaither, and Guy Penrod. Other favorites were the song "Love in Any Language" featuring Sandi Patti, and the classical harmonica medley featuring Buddy Greene. It is always amazing to me to note the smooth transitions between performers, the balance in musical selections, and the choice of featured artists. This concert featured numbers by some younger artists: The Crabb family, and Natalie Grant. Another Great Evening with Bill Gaither and his Homecoming Friends. Recommended. |
