I was quite excited to read this book. I am quite interested in learning about the lives and personalities of female artists and hoped to draw some inspiration from their unique experiences for my own dialog with the art world.

Unfortunately I was unable to finish the even first chapter of this book, though the introduction was pleasant enough to read, because the writing was painfully awful.

While the author clearly knows her subject and is passionate about the lives she is attempting to chronicle, her writing was cluttered and disorganized.

I think this could have been a fabulous book if it had been edited quite a bit. This is a great example of prose with an excessive number of parenthetical asides and strangely organized trivia. I would love to see a different version of this book with simpler writing because the subject matter is indeed glorious.
