Editorial Reviews

The Glorious Unfolding is the first full album of original songs from Steven Curtis Chapman in seven years. The highly anticipated album centers around the idea that God is at work telling a story through the wonderful and amazing as well as the painful chapters of our lives, something Chapman understands first hand. As he explains, "As I've journeyed through this story, I'm more convinced than ever that He does know the plans that He has for us and He will finish what He started. God is telling an amazing, glorious, epic story and we must decide if we will trust Him with it."

This album is not a rock album...yet it's not a acoustic album completely either. It has the best elements of what has catapulted SCC to the top of Christian music. Overall though the album doesn't really deviate too much from past records in sound. To me that's fine. Songs like 'Love Take Me Over', 'Take another Step', Michael and Maria, and of course the title track Glorious Unfolding and make something beautiful are after one listen my favorites, although pretty much all could be lol. I have followed this artist through his darkest of times after the loss of his daughter Maria and I can say, He still has such strong faith in the Lord and this album proclaims that well. The strings and light guitar work on the closing track 'Feet of Jesus' is really good. Music like this just reminds us as believers of that glorious day we will see Him face to face and how Jesus is completing his story in and through us right now in the day to day life we call here and now. If you want music that just merely makes you feel good and rock out, you may want to go elsewhere. But, if you love introspective and reflective music that brings you to God and reminds you of who He is....this is a jewel not worth passing up.

As always, SCC made yet another incredible album with, "The Glorious Unfolding". I pre-ordered the album and I've been listening to it non-stop, absorbing every song in my heart.

I lost two children the same year SCC and his family lost little Maria (2008). In a very bittersweet way, God has used SCC's pain of losing Maria as a way to minister to my own grieving heart as the years continue forward in grief. I know some reading this relate to that very well. I'm not a stranger to grief, but nothing can ever prepare you for the loss of your own child(ren). Every album SCC has produced since "This Moment: Cinderella edition", has spoken to my heart right where I was in my grieving. That's how you know SCC is the real deal! The "Cinderella" album will always hold a very special place in my heart, though.

You can tell the pain of losing Maria is still very fresh on his heart, but time has brought him to a new place in his grieving. He is healing, even though the pain of losing Maria will never go away. No one should ever expect a parent to "get over" the loss of a child(ren). Time slowly heals a broken heart, but until you are reunited with them, your heart is not restored. As you listen to this album, that's the message you will gain. "The Glorious Unfolding" is coming and we won't have to wait much longer for that restoration. You can feel that message radiate through your heart, mind, and soul as you listen to it, because Jesus is being magnified through it all!

The sound of this album is a perfect blend of what I remember of him from the 90s and his newer millennial albums. If you have several or all of SCC's albums, then you'll recognize many of his previous songs in this album.

I've been an SCC fan since his first album and have every album he owns. I've seen him in concert 3 times. I love this album, and it is excellent. What a 12 months it's been for SCC fans!!! "Joy," "Deep Roots," and now, "The Glorious Unfolding," three amazing, and yet all completely different, albums. What a blessing!

I listened to The Glorious Unfolding four times through last night, and each time appreciated the songs more and more. This is not a "worship album" of songs we'll all be singing soon in church, but it is a deeply WORSHIPFUL album. The songs are filled with obvious joy and confidence and trust in the Lord, expressions of worship to the One who holds our lives in His hand. This is SCC "living out loud!" - putting into songs his faith in God's goodness and the beauty of His plans.

I love the bluesy-southern "At the Feet of Jesus," it's almost a hymn and I like that part of it is sung acappella. "Sound of Your Voice" is a song that really resonates with me right now as I need to be hearing God's voice and getting His guidance on various issues. "The Glorious Unfolding" is an appropriately grand and glorious song - in some senses it's "the Great Adventure - part 2" - looking ahead beyond this life, which, as SCC reminds us, is only "the beginning of the beginning." I also LOVE "Finish What He Started" (especially the bass voices). I was initially less-keen on "Take Another Step," but it's grown on me with each listen, and it is such a helpful exhortation and a good verbalization of what it means that we must often walk by faith and not by sight. And, of course, Love Take Me Over and Something Beautiful are radio-friendly, very upbeat and catchy - Steven at his CCM pop best.

I was much anticpating this new album and once again Steven Curtis Chapman did not let me down. As I have been a follower of his music since he came out so long ago, his songs have encouraged and inspired me in my walk with the LORD, and this album is no different. I LOVE the fact that he is NOT afraid to mention the name of Jesus in his songs and you can feel the immense emotions in what he is singing about. His words are a reality to him...not just a song he chose, but one that was entirely written from the heart.

The first song "Glorious Unfolding" in itself, brings hope to any person who is battle weary from spiritually fighing in this walk of faith with the LORD Jesus Christ. To really take into grasp that God does see the bigger picture and that he that hath begun the good work in the life of every true and obediant believer, he will complete it.

As you continue to go through the song list you can't help but Praise the Lord, whether it be with a joyful shout in agreement, crying because you can relate with the passing of a loved one, but than with the song "See you in a little while" knowing that we as Holy Ghost filled believers have the hope, the blessed hope that we will see our loved one's who have gone on before us.

As always, Steven writes a song to his wife "Together" and you can't help but thank the LORD that God joined them together and that the two of them decided to hold true and fight for their marriage; and to keep the scripture alive in saying "What God has joined together, let no man put it assunder." I'm so grateful for their fight in keeping their home and family joined tightly in the corporate walk with Jesus.

This Album is a must to any person who needs to know that there is hope beyond the battle of your walk.
