5.0 out of 5 stars A great artist
The Reverend Gary Davis was a genuine product of a world that is gone with the wind, for good and ill. He was a blind bluesman who got saved, became a "Reverend", and produced some tremendous gospel/blues, some of which was recorded after he was "discovered" singing on New York City street corners. Gospel Blues is my favorite music genre, and I consider Reverend Gary Davis to be the godfather. However these supposed sessions made at the Apostolic Studio are not his best, despite the glowing review in the liner notes. Many of the songs should be classified as outtakes, with the reverend coughing or talking in the background. I was hoping to get some of his better...

However these supposed sessions made at the Apostolic Studio are not his best, despite the glowing review in the liner notes. Many of the songs should be classified as outtakes, with the reverend coughing or talking in the background. I was hoping to get some of his better gospel songs, but Harlem Street Singer is a better choice than this. There is some good harmonica work here, but it not enough to call this quality work.
