5.0 out of 5 stars Best Album Ever!, September 2, 2007
This review is from: Glory Bound (Dig) (Audio CD)
Revolution Mother...how appropriate. This band has brought something fresh to the table of rock, and they have sparked a revolution for punk rockers around the globe.

Their new album, "Glory Bound", is chock full of crunchy guitar riffs that will make your head spin, and lyrical inspiration from front man Mike Vallely. Every track is guaranteed to make you crank up the volume, and bang your head. I can safely say that this is the best album I have bought in a very long time, bar none.

This is rock at it's finest. Revolution Mother is a beautiful fusion of metal, and punk rock. I've been listening to every single track non-stop. This is just one of those CD's where you keep pressing repeat on your stereo. It is just that good. I have followed Mike V, and Jason since their beginnings in Mike V and the Rats. They have certainly upgraded their sound, and the clarity on the album is absolutely insane. The rhythm from Colin Buis on bass is amazing. When I first heard the Glory Bound cut of "Bullet", the first thing I noticed was the talent of this guy. Colin was destined for Revolution Mother. The bass riffs are absolutely ill. Also coming from the rhythm section, Brendan Murphy on drums. His rock-solid playing is absolutely amazing, in songs like their hit single, "Do Or Die", or "The Accuser". When you hear Brendan on drums, you can't help but to start banging your head. Revolution Mother's music just gets inside you, and inspires you. They waste no time. There is no time for girly screaming, or crappy playing. They mean business, and it shows.

Let me say a word about Mr. Jason Hampton. Well, actually, that's the problem. I cannot sum him up in one word. No amount of letters can be arranged to describe this man's playing. The amount of passion and conviction he plays with, is absolutely inspiring. His riffs range from slow and powerful, to fast and crunchy. Either way, it is like a fresh punch to the face. His playing is absolutely crazy. It screams crazy. It has most definitely added to the style of Revolution Mother. I just could not put myself in a place to pick one certain song to describe his playing. Every song is just as good, if not better than the last song on Glory Bound.

Now for the central reason I am here. Mike Vallely turned me onto skateboarding, and the music scene in general. He saved my life, and now I have something to live for. Most of this comes from his inspiration. The dude is the best at what he does, and always will be the best. That includes the musical aspect of his life, and there is no better example than Glory Bound. From the first few seconds of the first track "Come On", I was astonished. I automatically knew he poured his heart and soul into this project. Unlike most bands of today, Mike actually sings about things that matter. He has inspired people around the globe, that if you never give up, you will eventually succeed. What better medium to express that in, than music? Glory Bound is definitely set apart from Mike's other musical projects. Mike sang every song as if it were his last. Every song is filled with spirit and soul. His deep lyrics transcend rock and roll's barriers. All of the tracks contain so much conviction, passion, and spirit. Mike creates that as the front man of Revolution Mother. Such songs like "Above the Crawl" and "Do or Die" will definitely get you inspired, and it will definitely make you want to rock. Mike has a certain presence about him that cannot be learned, or bought. You'll see what I mean when you purchase the Glory Bound album.

Revolution Mother has accomplished feats beyond the category of rock. This music has forged a new path for musicians everywhere, and has shattered the conventional ideas of rock music. This is powerful music that will crush you, anytime, anywhere. You cannot compare them. These guys are one of a kind, and we can most certainly be expecting more out of them. Now stop listening to me talk...go buy Glory Bound, NOW!

Do or Die.

4.0 out of 5 stars For those fed up with "pop-rock"., August 28, 2007
This review is from: Glory Bound (Dig) (Audio CD)
This is what rock is supposed to be. Heavy, in your face, and MEANINGFUL. Fed up with the happy-go-lucky/just-lost-my-girl rock that is plaguing the radios (looking at you Fall-Out Boy), I first heard Revolution Mother while playing Tony Hawk's Project 8. Thought it was good and looked for more info. At the time the website was primitive and the myspace had nothing but demos, but from what I heard, Revolution Mother could hold it down. So, I picked up the album on sale and cranked it up.

The whole album is awesome with enough variety to keep it from getting monotonous, and enough substance to leave a lasting impression. I won't go so far as to say that it is ground breaking or the best album available, but definately a solid start for their full-length debut. Recommended for those that like AC/DC, Guns-and-Roses, or those that like to rock without the cookie-cutter crap that is in the top 40.

5.0 out of 5 stars One of the hardest albums I've ever heard., August 21, 2007
This review is from: Glory Bound (Dig) (Audio CD)
To start off, I'd just like to say that I'm a huge Mike Vallely fan. The man is a true artist and it shows through everything he does. As far as to music goes, Revolution Mother is really something else. It's more than just something to listen to while riding your skateboard (Although it definately works for that purpose also). However, this album is a statement of struggle and alienation against so many things. I find it hard to listen to the album sometimes because of how heavy it is. Now when I say heavy, I don't mean "Death Metal" heavy, where a band just plays heavily distorted, incredibly technical riffs while singing lyrics about gore and satanism that most of the members don't even have any actual connection to. No, this is an emotional assault. Every lyric and every note has so much emotion layered beneath it that it's hard to be passive while listening to. I love this because it's 100% honest! I hate listening to bands sing about angst ridden nonsense that they have no comprehension of. Also, if you love skating, this is a great album to get yourself pumped up before a session, I always keep this one in my Ipod nano.
My personal favorite song here is Who I Am... It's a much slower song without any drums which features Mike V giving a heart wrenching narative in the form of singing. Even though it's the slowest track on the album, it's my personal favorite because of how close it hits to home.
So to sum up this review, anyone that has struggled in life because of their individuality should definately pick this up. This is an album that stands strong on its own, without having to draw from Mike's fame as a profesional skateboarder. Go out to the store, pick up this album, and it might just inspire you to rise above all the things that have ever held you down in life.
Also, I'd recomend anything by Duane Peters and the Hunns. Another great punk rock band fronted by one of my favorite skaters of all time.
