Penny Parrish Grows Up, August 14, 2004
This review is from: Glory Be! (Penny Parrish) (Paperback)
In a compression of time, Penny Parrish reaches her 18th birthday just a few weeks before Pearl Harbor, in this third book of the Penny Parrish series. Like so many military families in that time period, there are many changes for the family. Lt. Col. Parrish is assigned overseas to England. Older son, David, in his last year at West Point, will certainly go into active duty after graduation.
Penny, herself, decides that she does not want to tie herself down to any one beau, but wishes to start on her pursuit of a stage career. These books have autobiographical elements, because the author, Janet Lambert, was an actress and playwright, as well as a wartime Army wife. The earlier books should be read before this one, because the characters from them show up again. I rated it with 5 stars because the description is so vivid that the characters come to life, and the plot move along in a way to keep the reader turning the pages.
