4.0 out of 5 stars GILLAN THE GOD!
Ian Gillan: an endless source of musical creation, not only in the hard rock genre, but with a lot of its subgenres. 2.0 out of 5 stars Not his best...
GLORY ROAD is not the best GIllan hard rock album. Its sucessor, 1981's FUTURE SHOCK, is a lot more mature and is better.

Also, the bonus tracks here are a waste of time, it only serves to destroy the atmosphere of the original album, theatmosphere of a band that was reaching its peak and beginning to headline arenas all over Europe.

Introduction gone, I must say GLORY ROAD is a masterpiece, along with MR. UNIVERSE. His band here is at full speed, full of confidence and brilliantism. Perfect.

4.0 out of 5 stars Hadr rock cannot get better than this!!, November 25, 2002
This review is from: Glory Road (Audio CD)
This is IAn Gillan releasing album after album better than Deep Purple's BURN, STORMBRINGER and COME TASTE THE BAND. THis is Ian Gillan at his hard rocking best, with energy and force, using his powerful lungs as a huge machine at the services of rock and roll.

The songs are fantastic, there are bluesy moments like IF YOU BELIEVE, everything is in tune. Guitarrist Bernie Torme never again regained such status as when he was playing with Gillan (he was the first name chosen to replace Randy Rhoads in Ozzy Osbourne's band, when Randy died).

YOu can't go wrong with this one: it's hard rock at its best!

4.0 out of 5 stars A minor hard rock masterpiece, February 17, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Glory Road (Audio CD)
This is a really strong record. The opening track, "Unchain Your Brain", is a great speed metal opening jolt in the tradition of "Speed King", "Fireball" and "Highway Star", and the intensity level is pretty consistent throughout. "On The Rocks", in particular, is a great metal epic.

Just to keep things interesting there are a couple of lighter moments--the pretty ballad "Time and Again" and the wonderful blues workout "If You Believe Me"-- a song only Gillan could deliver. The cd bonus tracks are all pretty good, too.

5.0 out of 5 stars Real Hard Rock, March 18, 2007
By
This review is from: Glory Road (Audio CD)
Glory Road is an album by the hard rock band "Gillan," which was released in October of 1980 and peaked at #3 in the U.K. album charts. A powerful record with loads of fantastic songs which show the legendary Ian Gillan at his rocking best, full of energy, confidence and using those powerful lungs and throat he's best known for. This album features Gillan's most famous line-up of Bernie Tormé, Colin Towns, John McCoy, Mick Underwood and of course Ian Gillan. This lineup also released two other albums, Mr. Universe and Future Shock. If you love Deep Purple MKII, you can't go wrong with this CD, it's real hard rock at its very best!

5.0 out of 5 stars Hard Rock at its very best, September 24, 2004
By
Raj (Mumbai, India) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Glory Road (Audio CD)
This album is the best by gillan post Deep Purple's 'Machine Head'. It's a classic hard rock album with some great numbers. The guitar work by Bernie Torme is excellent and Keys by Colin Townes are as usual very good.

'On the rocks' with a classic intro of the wind, sea gulls and a baby crying is an amazing song which has depth, power and speed. Great guitar work by Torme.

'Glory Road'has the real fast ones like 'unchain your brain' and 'Running white faced city boy' as well as the bluesy slower but not necessarily mellow 'time and again' and 'If you believe me' which is my personal favorite. The album also has the near perfect rock single in 'Sleeping on the Job' which I feel may be the most ordinary song on the album. This goes to show the real high standard of the album. If you like fast furious hard rock with twists and turns this is the album to go for. It is far better than anything put out by Whitesnake or that matter even Rainbow with Dio. It has hardness, melody and excitement that you will find hard to match.

One caution for those who do not like Keys on rock albums. The keys are quite prominent on this one (so is the guitar).

4.0 out of 5 stars So hard to find..., October 2, 2002
This review is from: Glory Road (Audio CD)
Why such a great album is so hard to find is hard to understand....

GLORY ROAD has the classic, altough short-lived, Gillan line-up of Gillan, Torme, Underwood, Towns and McCoy. They released MR. UNIVERSE, GLORY ROAD and FUTURE SHOCK. All three of them are simply totally above average and better than anything Deep Purple did without Gillan.

I have enjoyed Ian's excuse me,I mean, Mr Gillians music. His latest album, Dreamcatcher.I just would like him to know.If at all possible . He is one of a kind and how did he ever find the time .To create such inspirational music that to me was so fine. When there was really no time . Well take care of Mr gillian guys and I know he will do the same .
